'Lycett & Mummy' is coming to Covent Garden later this month
Hot off the heels of his public correspondence with Harry Styles about the latter’s Hockney portrait, Joe Lycett is back with an art exhibition in collaboration with his mum – the second the pair have hosted – called ‘Lycett & Mummy’, presented in collaboration with They Made This. Here’s everything you need to know.
‘Lycett & Mummy’: Joe Lycett’s New Art Exhibition With His Mum
A second epic mother-son art exhibition is winging its way to London this autumn, championing creativity and featuring new works, old works and collaborations. Entitled ‘Lycett & Mummy’, expect to see watercolour portraits and nudes from Helen – who is a professional artist – alongside vibrant acrylic paintings by Joe. Both will be on sale, giving visitors affordable and exclusive editions across a range of mediums, from screen, giclee and indigo prints to ceramics and fabrics.
‘Despite an angry and bitter personal relationship, mum and I have a deep mutual respect for our artworks,’ Joe Lycett joked. ‘We are delighted to share these works which should help pay for ongoing family legal disputes.’
‘“Let’s have a joint exhibition,” he said. “I’ll just add a few finishing touches to some of your paintings,” he didn’t say,’ Helen Lycett added.
In partnership with Private Press, entry to the exhibition is free of charge, and screen printing workshops will also be hosted free of charge, with the added opportunity to take home an A4 print by Helen and Joe. They Made This – the hosting gallery – will also have its Art Tombola, giving visitors the chance to win editioned and signed prints.
‘We are thrilled to curate this playful Mother and Son show,’ Aine Donovan and Eloise Jones, founders of They Made This, said. ‘We hope the proceeds will help towards the store refit needed after the giant mess our own son made yesterday.’
