What Is Manchester Pride Festival?

Manchester Pride Festival is a big blow-out ‘party as protest’ that takes over Manchester every August Bank Holiday. It is hosted by Manchester Pride, a charity hosting events year round, committed to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Greater Manchester and beyond.

The Festival spans everything from the renowned Gay Village Party to the annual Candlelit Vigil (reflecting on people lost to HIV) to the parade itself. All of the events are free to attend except the Gay Village Party which you will need a ticket for. Youth Pride and Family Pride are also a big, important part of the Festival, creating an inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people of all ages.

When Is Manchester Pride 2024?

This year, Manchester Pride Festival runs from Friday 23 until Monday 26 August 2024.

When Is the Manchester Pride Parade?

This year, Manchester’s Pride Parade will take place on Saturday 24 August, kicking off at midday. The 2024 theme is ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer – A Hive of Progress’, drawing on the city’s iconic emblem, the worker bee, which dates back 150 years to the industrial revolution. Tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ people and allies are expected to gather and march in the name of equality in a spectacular sea of colours.

When Is The Candlelit Vigil?

The annual Candlelit Vigil will take place on Monday 26 August at Sackville Gardens (Whitworth St, Sackville St, Manchester M1 3WA), a small park with a statue of Alan Turing and a permanent HIV memorial. This is when people come together to honour those who are suffering, persecuted, and have lost their lives due to HIV, and is an important, poignant reminder of the challenges still faced by LGBTQ+ people in Manchester and across the globe. It’s free to attend, but if you can’t make it, there will also be a live stream at manchesterpride.com
