We're holding out hope for these epic reunions

The world of pop music is abuzz with the news that Girls Aloud will return for a 2024 reunion tour. But what of other big bands from years past? Whether it’s Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Daft Punk or One Direction, there’s a whole host of bands that we’d love to see reunite – even if the chances are slim.

Iconic Band Reunion Tours: The Bands We Wish Would Reunite

Oasis

There are fewer musical (or, let’s face it, familial) feuds quite as renowned as that which simmers between the Gallagher brothers. Noel Gallagher officially left the band in 2009, and almost 15 years later, a reunion still feels unlikely. We can only hope that Noel makes a surprise appearance at his brother’s 2024 Reading Festival performance – Liam has just been announced as a headliner.

Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac’s standout album Rumours may have been released back in 1977, but the band’s legacy shows no signs of disappearing; most recently, it served as the inspiration between the smash hit novel and TV show Daisy Jones and the Six, which charts a love triangle between a 1970s rock group. Fleetwood Mac has, of course, split and reformed multiple times already, with Christine McVie joining in 1970 after original members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green disbanded. Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham arrived in 1974, though Christine and Nicks eventually left, with Buckingham following suit. Following Christine’s death in November 2022, it’s unlikely the band will ever reunite – but maybe a (final) farewell tour is on the cards.

Destiny’s Child

Originally formed in 1990 in Houston, Texas, the most well-known iteration of this girl band comprised Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and, of course, Beyonce. From ‘Lose My Breath’ to ‘Bootylicious’, Destiny’s Child treated us to an array of truly timeless hits – but the trio decided to go their separate ways in 2006 in pursuit of solo careers. Perhaps Destiny’s Child walked so R&B royalty Beyonce could run… nevertheless, we’re still hoping the legendary band will return to the stage.

BTS

While the beloved K-Pop stars of BTS haven’t officially called it quits, they recently reported a hiatus and begun embarking on solo ventures. Crucially, every member of the band must complete mandatory military service, meaning they are unlikely to return to the stage until at least 2025. The reunion tour better be epic.

Daft Punk

Best known for experimenting with funk, disco, techno and synth-pop, this French duo had an enormous impact on the dance music genre, but they shook up the industry by announcing their split in 2021. It’s not clear whether a reunion tour is on the horizon, but perhaps we’ll Get Lucky.

BROCKHAMPTON

Led by American rapper, singer and songwriter Kevin Abstract, this hip hop group provided a new definition of what a boy band could be. From their much-loved fifth album Ginger to Roadrunner, their final release, BROCKHAMPTON enjoyed a vibrant career, and their disbandment – announced after their 2022 Coachella performance – was unexpected. Here’s hoping there’s more to come from the band.

One Direction

Ask anyone who grew up with the enduring boyband croon of One Direction and they’ll likely speculate about the possibility of the band’s revival. Zayn Malik departed in 2015 and enjoyed a successful solo career, while One Direction officially entered a period of ‘indefinite hiatus’ the following year. Harry Styles, of course, has since taken over the world, so who knows whether a One Direction reunion tour is a possibility – though plenty of fans are holding out hope.
