This South London based superhero series is gathering fans left and right after its debut week on Netflix. But will there be a Supacell season 2?

Will There Be A Supacell Season 2?

Yes, Netflix has officially confirmed Supacell will be returning for season 2. ‘Season 1 is my Batman Begins,’ series creator Rapman said in a statement. ‘Season 2 is when you really see what they become.’

For Rapman, this is no surprise: ‘I’ve always had it [mapped out] to Season 3,’ he told Tudum. ‘I know how Season 2 ends. I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years, so I’m ready to go.’ According to Rapman, the idea for Supacell has been brewing ‘subliminally […] for a while’, but it wasn’t until 2019 when he was doing press for another project that the rapper and writer spoke his idea aloud for the first time and progress really started.

However, Rapman recently spoke to C&TH about how tough the writing process turned out to be. ‘It was maybe the toughest part of the production for me,’ Rapman said. ‘I think that’s because I wrote every episode. It felt like a never ending process and endless notes – and it never really did end. I remember wrapping on set at midnight then getting to my hotel to rewrite scenes for the shoot the next day. As tough as the process was, it definitely made the scripts better, which is always worth it.’

Hopefully his experience writing season 1 will make Supacell season 2 a breeze.

What Is Supacell About?

‘Supacell is about five ordinary Black people from South London who unexpectedly develop superpowers,’ Rapman recently told C&TH. ‘It is raw and relatable, and an authentic take on the superhero genre. Although it’s not your typical superhero show or Marvel, it’s everyday people with powers. I don’t want to give too much away, but it is predominantly about love. All of the characters have a love for someone they want to fight for and protect.’

What Will Happen In Season 2?

At the end of Supacell season 1, Michael vows, ‘When I come back, they’re all gonna fucking pay.’ He’s talking to his superpowered allies Andre, Rodney, Sabrina and Tazer, while ‘they’ is the shadowy organisation that stalks, manipulates and in some cases kills supacell holders in the first season. Supacell season 2, then, will certainly see this revenge plot come to life – but that’s all we know at the moment.
