What Is The Night Caller About?
The series centres on a taxi driver called Tony Conroy. Once a highly regarded science teacher, Tony has no family and lives a solitary life, drifting through the world working the night shift driving a cab in busy Liverpool, picking up and dropping off passengers of various sobriety. His one consistent sense of company comes in the form of late night radio station, NightTalk.
One night, Tony is carrying a passenger when he is recognised. The passenger is a former teaching colleague, who declares Tony was unfairly dismissed from work. The air is thick with tension and Tony is visibly uncomfortable; something happened at school, something that deeply troubles Tony.
With no one to talk to, he turns to NightTalk. To his surprise, Tony is instantly put on air with radio DJ Lawrence Brightway, who understands and even seems to empathise with the lot Tony has been handed in life. In Tony’s mind, the pair have formed an instant connection – and thus The Night Caller really begins.
