Mokka to go!

Motoring editor Jeremy Taylor and Jessica Talbot-Ponsonby discover an all-electric hatchback with coffee bar in the boot.

What Is The Vauxhall Mokka Coffee-E?

JT – Your commute to London might never be the same thanks to Vauxhall’s caffeinated concept car!

J-TP – Finally, an SUV that actually offers something useful. We had a Soviet-built, 1980s Lada Niva with a coffee bar at our wedding. I’m amazed car manufacturers haven’t come up with this idea before.

I imagine it was a no-brainer in a car called Mokka! Decades ago, my father used a tea maker that hooked precariously onto the door handle of his Vauxhall and plugged in to the cigarette lighter. It took ages to boil and on more than one occasion split hot liquid on his lap.

Ha! This adds a whole new meaning to drink driving. There are actually two coffee machines in the Mokka’s 310-litre boot. One is designed for coffee pods, while the other is a full-on unit that includes a bean grinder and a milk frother.

I mean, you could set up a coffee cafe at any motorway service station and give Starbucks a run for their money. A strong coffee might perk me up on the M4, too.

Vauxhall has also teamed up with artisan coffee roasters Cafeology to create a range of six unique coffee blends for the Mokka – all neatly packed in jars on top of the unit.

There’s also a pull-out table, mini-fridge, bespoke coffee cups and, for British weather, a brace of umbrellas, too.

Sadly, there are no plans to offer the Mokka Coffee-E for sale, because I think it would be a tasty addition to the range.

A new Mokka SUV is due out sooner, but if you’re more of a tea-drinker, you can read our review of the standard Mokka-E here.
