Tim Burton's Netflix mega-hit is back for a second instalment
Tim Burton’s take on The Addams Family was one of the most highly-anticipated Netflix releases of 2022 – and it did not disappoint, becoming the platform’s most-watched title ever in a single week. Starring Jenna Ortega, Luiz Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively, the reboot manifested as a gothic coming-of-age comedy. And in January 2023, much to fans’ delight, it was revealed that a second season is on the way – and after that, a lot of waiting… Until now: production has finally wrapped on Wednesday season 2, meaning it’s on track for a 2025 release. Here’s everything we know so far – including the full cast.

Who Is In The Wednesday Season 2 Cast?
Netflix has revealed the full cast for Wednesday season 2 – and it’s star-studded. Naturally, Jenna Ortega is back in the titular role, accompanied by her parents Morticia and Gomez Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luiz Guzmán) and roommate Enid (Emma Myers). But new additions for season two include some lofty British stars: Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley and Thandiwe Newton, to be precise. Plus Christopher Lloyd – who played Uncle Fester in the original 1991 live action film – has joined the cast.
The full cast is as follows:
- Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luiz Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Emma Myers as Enid
- Joanna Lumley as Grandmama
- Billie Piper as Capri
- Thandiwe Newton as Dr Fairburn
- Joy Sunday as Bianca
- Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore Academy
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Victor Dorobantu as Thing
- Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger
- Luyanda Unati Lewis Nyawo
- Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
- Owen Painter as Karloff
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin
- Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
- Christopher Lloyd
- Evie Templeton
- Noah Taylor
- Frances O’Connor
- Haley Joel Osment
- Heather Matarazzo
- Joonas Suotamo
One notable absence is Percy Hynes White who played Xavier Thorpe in season 1, a Nevermore Academy student with the ability to make his art come to life, with psychic visions in his dreams. Xavier is one of Wednesday’s key suspects as she investigates who the Hyde might be. In 2023, Hynes White attracted controversy after he was accused of sexual assault and sending sexually explicit imagery to underage girls. The actor has denied the claims, and Netflix has not commented on his departure from the series. Hynes White himself, however, wrote on his Instagram story that he ‘can’t wait to watch season 2. Much love.’
What Will Happen In Wednesday Season 2?
Wednesday season 2 will return to Nevermore Academy and its supernatural students. ‘This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,’ showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar told Netflix Tudum. ‘Season 2 will be delightfully dark, kooky, and mysterious. If we told you why, Wednesday would kill us. So our lips are sealed.’
The duo added: ‘We look forward to exploring more Addams Family lore, and are excited to introduce an eclectic lineup of incredible new characters.’ One such new character is Grandmama, played by Joanna Lumley.
Ortega – who is now an executive producer on the series – also suggested the new season will have a stronger emphasis on horror. Speaking to Laverne Cox on the Emmys red carpet, she said: ‘I’ve received some scripts now for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror. It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show [Wednesday] never really changes and that’s what’s wonderful about her.’
She added: ‘There’s some really good one-liners and I think everything is bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.’
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s creators Al Gough and Miles Millar said they hoped future seasons would also delve into the relationship between Wednesday and her mother, Morticia, plus her friendship with roommate Enid (Emma Myers).
When Will Wednesday Season 2 Come Out?
Wednesday season 2 will be released in 2025 – but no specific date just yet.
Although the second season was announced in January 2023, production was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, production is officially underway – reportedly in Ireland, making a change from the first season, which was shot in Romania. ‘[Ireland] adds a sense of timeless beauty, wonder, and epic spectacle to the world of Wednesday,’ say Gough and Millar. ‘It’s no coincidence that Dracula author Bram Stokerhailed from Dublin, and his stories were inspired by the stories of Irish folklore.’
In the meantime, you can stream all of the first season now on Netflix.
