Da Costa brings the recipes of northern Italy to England's southwest

Artfarm, the team behind London’s Mount St. Restaurant and The Fife Arms in Scotland, has announced its latest venture. Set to launch this September is Da Costa, an Italian eatery in Bruton, Somerset, which will occupy the site which previously housed Roth Bar & Grill at the Hauser & Wirth gallery on Durslade Farm.

Da Costa Is Opening This September

Da Costa is inspired by, and named after, Artfarm co-founder Iwan Wirth’s grandfather, who was born in the small village of Rivamonte Agordino in the Veneto region of Northern Italy. He later moved to Switzerland, where he opened a restaurant, which quickly became the hub of the neighborhood, renowned for its simple, honest fare.

Artfarm’s new restaurant will channel this ethos, pairing British produce with Italian flavours. The menu will be created using seasonal produce grown on the farm and surrounding area, focusing on traditional northern Italian recipes: antipasti, pasta, risotto and daily specials cooked over fire.

Highlights will include risotto with toasted walnuts, a staple dish from Rivamonte, carpaccio of Durslade Farm beef, handmade buckwheat pasta with Fonduta (an Italian take on fondue) and grilled red mullet with fennel and caper salad.

Alongside this there will be an extensive wine list focusing on Italian and British small domain producers, including wines created in Durslade Farm’s own vineyards, alongside a selection of Italian-inspired cocktails.

Interiors are always a big part of Artfarm’s projects, and Da Costa is no exception. Designer Piet Oudolf and architectural practice Laplace have created the restaurant’s look, alongside a new courtyard garden.

Founded in 2014 by gallerists and art collectors Iwan and Manuela Wirth, Artfarm is the hospitality arm of art gallery group Hauser & Wirth. Its other properties include The Audley Public House in London, Manuela, a restaurant in Los Angeles, and Fish Shop restaurant and fishmonger in Ballater.

Da Costa will open on 7 September 2024, open for lunch and dinner Wednesday – Saturday. da-costa.co.uk
