Dylan fan? You can try his baking in London

He was the bookies’ favourite to win Great British Bake Off 2024, but Dylan Bachelet ended up losing out to Georgie Grass in last night’s finale. He was one of this year’s most popular breakout stars – and although he didn’t take home the crown, it was revealed that he has since landed his dream job at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Who Is Dylan Bachelet?

Buckinghamshire-born Dylan Bachelet was a runner up on Great British Bake Off 2024. Aged just 20, he was one of the youngest contestants on this year’s series, and before the show he worked as a retail assistant. His baking style is influenced by his heritage – Dylan’s mother is Indian, and his father is Japanese-Belgian – as well as French pâtissérie chefs.

He was one of the strongest contestants throughout the series, landing star baker twice and receiving constant praise from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, lauded in particular for his innovative flavors and impeccable presentation.

However, the pressure got to him in the finale. For the final signature challenge, the bakers were tasked with baking 20 scones, but Dylan didn’t manage to finish his on time, and Prue declared his work ‘really messy’. He struggled, too, with the showstopper, which saw the contestants trying to master a gravity-defying tiered hanging cake. Again, Dylan ran out of time and was forced to layer his cake in a hurry. Nonetheless, Paul called it ‘fascinating work’ – but ultimately, Georgie ended up taking home the gong.

Where Does Dylan From Bake Off Work?

At the end of last night’s episode, it was revealed that Dylan has fulfilled his dream of becoming a professional chef. He works at Five Fields in Chelsea, London, a modern British restaurant centered around seasonal produce – some from the venue’s own kitchen garden in East Sussex.

Opened in 2013, it’s helmed by chef patron Taylor Bonnyman, and has won a string of awards over the years, including one Michelin star and four AA Rosettes. Despite this, the eatery has maintained an unfussy, neighbourhood feel.

There are three menus to choose from: a set menu, a tasting menu and a lunch menu. These change regularly according to the seasons, but current dishes include field mushroom with pickled parsnips, cod steamed with leeks and mussels, and a pear conference tart with walnuts and stilton (Dylan’s work, perhaps?).
