A fitting location for a sweet (and spooky) treat
If the thought of pumpkin soup and toffee apples isn’t putting you in the Halloween mood, Halloween afternoon tea is likely far more tempting – and what could be better than snacking on scones and sandwiches at London’s most haunted theatre? Read on for the details of Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s ghoulish new offering.
You Can Now Book Halloween Afternoon Tea At London’s Most Haunted Theatre
London’s 360 year-old Theatre Royal Drury Lane is thought to be haunted by a formidable array of ghosts – making it the perfect place to visit this Halloween season. Plus, if you’re searching for a sugar fix ahead of that all-important trick-or-treating on 31 October, you’re in luck: this spooky spot has just launched an exclusive Halloween afternoon tea.
Served in The Lane’s opulent Grand Saloon, the menu features a variety of savoury bites from chefs at The Lane, alongside a treasure trove of sweet treats by London-based baker Lily Vanilli. First, tuck into a bitesize English crumpet topped with smoked salmon and Earl Grey-infused cream cheese, before sampling a coronation chicken pie and a savoury madeleine with whipped English feta and pickled heritage carrot. Follow up, of course, with warm fruit scones.
When it comes to cakes, meanwhile, Lily Vanilli’s Halloween-inspired offerings include her beloved vanilla and passionfruit sponge topped with a special gingerbread tombstone, edible soil and graveyard-vine piping. You can also nibble on a strawberry ice cream sandwich and a mini sticky toffee pudding filled with custard, drizzled with salted caramel and topped with a spooky eyeball.
If this ghoulish afternoon tea doesn’t satisfy your Halloween cravings, you can also book a Theatre Royal Drury Lane Halloween Tour (and hope for a sighting of the theatre’s most famous ghost, The Man in Grey). This after-hours experience even includes a special Halloween cocktail, which you can enjoy in the theatre’s stunning Cecil Beaton Bar. There’s certainly plenty to do this spooky season.
The Halloween afternoon tea is priced at £59pp, while the Halloween Tour is priced at £30. Both experiences are available to book until 31 October. For more information, visit thelane.co.uk
