Jeremy Clarkson Could Be Opening A Pub Soon

As if a farm, shop and (short-lived) restaurant wasn’t enough, Jeremy Clarkson has set his sights on yet another Cotswold project – and this time, it’s a pub.

Is Jeremy Clarkson Opening A Pub?

Rumour has it that Jeremy Clarkson is interested in taking on a local pub near Diddly Squat Farm, where he will continue to champion British farming and produce. The Coach and Horses, which can be found opposite Clarkson’s Hawkstone Brewery, was recently granted a new premises license by Cotswold District Council allowing it to sell alcohol from 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.

While currently owned by The Stonegate Group, the pub’s agent recently stated that they would like to let the pub to a new tenant – although it would need a pretty hefty investment of £750,000 to fix up the building, which currently has a hole in the roof. ‘It would have a really good food offer to encourage people to visit,’ the pub’s agent commented. ‘[But] there would have to be significant investment.’

The Parking Dilemma

As well as the task of cleaning up the pub’s appearance, Clarkson will also face concerns over traffic and parking. Local villagers have expressed their worry about the new pub potentially causing a surge in traffic, as it is currently only accessible by car.

The site is also currently being reviewed for a licensing application that would enable a capacity of 4,000 people at the site, says Councillor Len Wilkins. ‘You can only get there by car,’ he said. ‘The car park would have been a nightmare. You could be looking at 1,000 cars on the Fosse just trying to get there. There is also concern about the car park at the Coach and Horses not being big enough.’

Clarkson’s new pub is thought to be The Coach & Horses, which is located on Fosse Way and sits opposite the Hawkstone Brewery, near Bourton-on-the-Water.

When Will The Pub Open?

Unfortunately, not any time soon. Plans for Jeremy Clarkson’s pub are still on hold while concerns over the issues of traffic and parking are addressed.

Will The Pub Be On Clarkson’s Farm?

While the Coach & Horses isn’t actually featured in the most recent season of Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy Clarkson was spotted with a film crew in the car park earlier this year. He also visited Gloucestershire County Council to discuss highways concerns for the site back in March – so it could make an appearance in future instalments of the show, depending on how negotiations go.
