The Langham

Mimosa

One of London’s most iconic hotels, The Langham is welcoming a new restaurant this spring, Mimosa. The second outpost from the Parisian restaurant (the original sits within the Hotel de La Marine), it aims to bring a slice of Riviera charm to the capital with a Mediterranean-inspired menu. Highlights will include the famous mimosa eggs, beef tartare, grilled parmesan taglioni, and niçoise salad. The space will be equally charming, all terracottas, blues and greens paired with luxurious marble, brass and wood.

Bread and dips at OMA restaurant in London

OMA

Manteca in Shoreditch has risen to cult status since opening in 2021, renowned for its nose-to-tail cooking. And now its co-founder, David Carter, is back with a new restaurant, OMA, coming soon to Borough Market. Set to open in spring 2024, up a flight of stairs just off Bedale Street, OMA will draw from the cuisine of the Greek islands and surrounding coastal regions. It will feature both a crudo bar, which will showcase a display of dayboat fish and shellfish, alongside an open, live-fire kitchen, where the kitchen team will sizzle up dry-aged meat, Cornish fish and vegetables from Flourish Farm. Heading up the kitchen alongside Carter will be Nick Molyviatis and Jorge Paredes, formerly head chef of Kiln and executive chef of Sabor respectively.

Josephine

Last year was an exciting one for chef Claude Bosi, who has helmed two big restaurant openings: Socca in Mayfair, and Brooklands at The Peninsula London. And it looks like 2024 will be another big one, with yet another new opening on the cards: a French bistro called Josephine, set to open its doors on Fulham Road in January. A joint project with his wife Lucy, Josephine is said to be the couple’s most personal venture yet, inspired by Bosi’s Lyonnaise roots and named after his grandmother.

Sushi at Giglamesh

Morchella

Love Perilla in Newington Green? You’re in luck: a second venture from the duo behind it is on its way. Founders Ben Marks and Matthew Emmerson have teamed up with Great British Menu alumni Daniel Fletcher to launch Morchella, a restaurant and wine bar in Exmouth Market. This time the menu will focus on Mediterranean cuisine, with dishes like octopus luciana, salt baked poussin, and hake with sobrassada sauce. Like Perilla, Morchella will have a relaxed, neighbourhood feel, with produce sourced from British farmers and fishers alongside wines from names like Dynamic Vines and Newcomers.

Los Mochis City

Los Mochis London City

Japanese-Mexican restaurant Los Mochis has been a hit in Notting Hill since it opened in 2021– and no doubt its new sister restaurant will have similar success. Opening in the City next spring is a larger flagship branch, which will set up camp on the rooftop of 100 Liverpool Street. It will feature a 3,000 sq. ft terrace offering panoramic views of the city, and the same unique fusion concept as the original, with new menu additions helmed by ex-Nobu chef Leonard Tanyag. The build-your-own tacos are sure to be a highlight, paired with ceviches, sashimi and tostaditos aplenty.

Opening 11 April 2024, losmochis.co.uk

Jack Croft, Will Murray and James Robson, founders of Fallow

Roe

Loved Fallow? You’re in luck: the team behind it are launching a new culinary venture, Roe. Opening this spring in Canary Wharf, the restaurant will be based around the same nose-to-tail, root-to-stem ethos as its St James’s sibling, spotlighting underused and underappreciated ingredients. Spread across two floors, with a terrace overlooking the South Dock canal, it will focus on rare breed meats and regenerative crops: menu highlights will include a maitake Cornish pasty, plus a mixed grill of cuts of venison.

Julie’s

Another London stalwart set to be reimagined next year is Holland Park favourite Julie’s. Opened in 1967 by interior designer Julie Hodgess, the restaurant attracted a string of famous faces over the years, from Kate Moss to Paul McCartney and Tina Turner. The G3 table, hidden away in a curtained alcove, was famous for hosting A-list meet-ups, and earned itself a nickname as the G-spot. In January this year, the restaurant closed – but now it’s coming back under new ownership. At the helm is west London chef Tara MacBain, who is reopening Julie’s as a modern French brasserie, hoping to bring back its heyday glamour with decadent seafood towers and tableside martini trolleys.

Unnamed restaurant from Des Gunewardena

Esteemed London restaurateur Des Gunewardena – the former boss of Quaglino’s – has a new venture on the cards for 2024. While we don’t have a name just yet, it’s been revealed that Gunewardena is opening a 6,500 sq ft restaurant and bar at the Royal Exchange. Due to open in May next year, the eatery will take over the north, south and east mezzanines in the central courtyard – complete with a new outdoor terrace.

Opening in May 2024

Akira Back

Akira

Michelin-starred Korean chef Akira Back will make his first foray into London next year, with two new openings coming to the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. The first is the eponymous Akira Back restaurant, a Japanese eatery showcasing some of his greatest hits, from the famous AB Tuna Pizza to the 28 Hour Short Ribs, alongside some new dishes exclusive to London, such as a wagyu tempura wellington. Alongside this, Back will be bringing his chef’s table concept Dosa to the capital, serving an array of Korean dishes in a counter-style format, with a set menu inspired by the four seasons.

New restaurant from Stevie Parle

Again, we don’t have much information on this one yet, but chef Stevie Parle has announced he’s opening a new restaurant in the West End next year. Parle worked at a string of esteemed eateries including The River Cafe and Petersham Nurseries before launching Italian restaurant Pastaio – and now he has a new project in the pipeline. Speaking about the launch, he said: ‘I’m not going to tell you the name, the concept, who my amazing new partners are or what we’ll be cooking but it’ll be something special for sure and it should be open by the summer. Or it had better be. I’ve created new partnerships with forward thinking farmers and growers all over the country. We have carefully-grown regenerative produce waiting for us to fire up the wood ovens.’

The Park

A year on from the sale of his restaurant group Corbin & King, veteran restaurateur Jeremy King is ‘getting back on the saddle’ (his words). He has a number of exciting projects in the pipeline for 2024, including the launch of a new restaurant called The Park, which will take inspiration from European grand cafes. This is familiar territory for King, who has opened numerous brasseries over the years including perhaps the capital’s most famous one of all, The Wolseley. In an email to his mailing list, he wrote that The Park will be ‘very much within the “Grand Cafés & Brasseries” mould that I love so much but it is however very much of the early 21st Century rather than 20th.’ The restaurant will open within the new Park Modern building opposite Kensington Palace Gardens at some stage next year.

Le Caprice Exterior

Le Caprice

Arlington

That’s not all for King. He’s also busy planning a relaunch of one of London’s most iconic restaurants of all time, Le Caprice. A favourite of Princess Diana and Mick Jagger, the Mayfair restaurant stood as one of London’s most beloved eateries for almost 40 years, before closing its doors in 2020. Next year, though, King is transforming the St James’ site into a new restaurant called Arlington (named after the street it’s on), which King describes as ‘a new version’ of Le Caprice. He wrote in an email: ‘I hope you will find it reassuringly familiar in how it looks, and what we serve’, and confirmed that long-standing maitre d’ Jesus Adorno – who was GM for a whopping 38 years – will be returning.

Opening in 2024

Soul Mama

Jazz musician YolanDa Brown OBE broke records in a Kickstarter fundraising campaign for her restaurant and live music venue. Within eight weeks, a whopping £248,148 was raised to fund the launch of Soul Mama, an Afro-Caribbean restaurant Brown is opening alongside music manager and entrepreneur Adetokunbo ‘T’ Oyelola. Due to open its doors in Islington in early 2024, the eatery will serve ‘authentic tastes of Africa, the Caribbean and South America’, and play host to regular live music, with a focus on supporting rising stars across jazz, soul, gospel and reggae.

The Emory

One of the most anticipated hotel launches for next year is The Emory, a new opening from the hotel group behind Claridge’s and The Berkeley, Maybourne Hotel Group. Located in Knightsbridge, the all-suite hotel will feature a dazzling rooftop as well as a restaurant from chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten – who helms an eatery at sister hotel The Connaught. He’ll be bringing his ABC restaurant concept to The Emory, which is making waves in New York with its organic, ingredient-focused menu.

Effie

The building which formerly housed Whiteley’s in Bayswater is currently being revamped into a sleek development, which will house a Third Space gym alongside a number of bars and restaurants. One of these is Effie, a new launch from Pachamama Group, the name behind hotspots like the eponymous Pachamama as well as Chelsea’s Chicama and Zephyr in Notting Hill. The restaurant will serve a Mediterranean menu of dishes inspired by the Aegean coast, such as mezze and chargrilled meat and fish dishes.
