Culinary openings to be excited about
It’s been a turbulent couple of years for the restaurant world, to say the least. Yet despite everything, we’re seeing brave chefs and restaurateurs standing up to the challenges and launching new ventures. London’s food scene is back – with a whole host of fresh talent. These are the new restaurants opening in 2022 that you need on your radar.
Best New Restaurants in London 2022: Recent Restaurant Openings
Din Tai Fung Centre Point
For fans of the Michelin Guide recognised Taiwanese restaurant, rejoice – there’s a new Din Tai Fung in town. You’ll find the dumpling haven in Centre Point, alongside all of its most recognisable dishes (such as the droolworthy hot soup dumplings, the Xiao Long Bao). You can expect chic interiors, gorgeous cocktails and – best of all – robot waiters to serve all your food. Now open, dintaifung-uk.com
Sparrow Italia
The beloved US restaurant concept crosses the atlantic – Sparrow Italia is set to open in Mayfair this Autumn. Think the food of the modern Italian coast, served in a gorgeous fine dining environment across three floors (including a cigar lounge on the third level). We’re hoping some of the menu is offered up à la the L.A menu, because we’re desperate to try the squid ink bucatini pasta. Now open, sparrowitalia.com. Read our full review here.
Scott’s, Richmond
Oyster shuckers rejoice, beloved Mayfair seafood restaurant Scott’s is opening up in Richmond, with a location offering unbeatable views of the Thames – enjoy autumnal baked spiced crabs amidst Art Deco design. Opening Autumn 2022, scotts-richmond.com
LIMA
Not a completely new open… In fact, LIMA has been around for a decade now – but it’s had a vast refurb this year, meaning it has only recently reopened to the public. Expect interiors that transport you directly to Peru, plus an all-new menu to accompany the facelift. Newly appointed culinary director, Roberto Sihuay, captains this ship with his regional expertise – with a twist. Roberto’s take is that modern-day Peru and its cuisine benefits from diverse global influences in its population, and so seeks for his food to reflect this. It’s brilliantly done, with an offering which weaves Chinese, Japanese and more traditional Peruvian food seamlessly into the singular exciting menu. What’s the item on the menu that we’re drooling over? It’ll be the Cornish scallops with parmigiano tiger’s milk. Now re-opened, limalondon.com.
Revolve
Enjoy mouth-watering French cuisine amongst an impressive dining atmosphere at newly opened Revolve, inspired by those grand dining institutions found in Paris and New York. Emulating a traditional brasserie, this 115-cover spot features Versailles parquet flooring, artwork from Damien Hurst and John Hoyland, and a large Parisian-style terrace. And with Head Chef Arran Smith at the helm, guests can expect Michelin-starred standard French dishes with a modern twist. Think Dorset escargots with roasted bone marrow, beef tartare with marmite egg and Worcester sauce and the desert classic: tart tatin. Now open, revolve.london
Kuro Eatery
A new all-day addition to Notting Hill’s vibrant dining scene, Kuro Eatery follows the success of Julian Victoria and Jacob Van Nieuwkoop’s popular Kuro coffee house, which opened in the area in 2021. With an intimate and minimalist vibe, food is led by Greek chef Andriannos Poulis, whose CV spans stints at Rovi in Fitzrovia, Cornerstone in Hackney and Mazi in Notting Hill, and who is passionate about seasonal produce presented in uncomplicated small plates with simple, clean and fresh flavours. kuro-london.com
Coming Soon: The New Restaurants To Watch Out For
Elis
Michelin star-studded Rafael Cagali (whose Da Terra restaurant was ranked as the third best food joint in the country by Hardens this year) is opening his second restaurant: Elis. The story behind the name is pretty heartwarming, too – Elis is named in tribute to his mother, whose first restaurant-slash-jazz bar was named similarly. Look forward to relaxed Brazilian-Italian a la carte offerings from the acclaimed chef. We can’t wait to try Rafael’s latest dishes, and particularly have our eye on the sumptuous crab tagliolini… Opening October, @restaurant.elis
Socca
Two-Michelin starred chef Claude Bosi has teamed up with restaurateur Samyukta Nair for his latest venture, Socca. Set to launch on the former Richoux site in Mayfair this summer, the bistro-style restaurant will channel the French Riviera, with a dining room inspired by the whimsical interiors of Villa Santo Sospir – the Côte d’Azur house where socialite Francine Weisweiller would host the likes of Picasso and Yves Saint Laurent. The menu will focus on simplicity and seasonality, with hearty sharing-style dishes and wines by the glass. Opening 2022, soccabistro.com
Björn Frantzén at Harrods
Aside from the endless shopping opportunities, you’ll have another reason to visit Harrods this year. One of the world’s most acclaimed chefs, three Michelin-star Swedish-born Björn Frantzén is opening a restaurant there. Not many details have been revealed yet, but if his eponymous flagship restaurant in Stockholm – which was recently named sixth in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants – is anything to go by, it’s sure to be something special. Opening in late 2022.
Cycene @ Blue Mountain School
A seriously cool new opening in Shoreditch from cult fashion favourite Blue Mountain School and chef Theo Clench. In the heart of the Blue Mountain School townhouse, this sixteen-cover will offer up a ten course menu that excels in drawing out big flavours from otherwise simple ingredients. Expect East Asian and Australasian influences (with a particular emphasis on seafood) on the menu, which will evolve as seasons change. Adding to their cool factor, Cycene will host its own specialist ageing chambers to allow meat and fish to be aged in-house in addition to fermentation lockers for the development of its own bespoke vinegars. Opening in October 2022, bluemountain.school/cycene
