John Lewis' latest cocktail bar is here

The weather may not be playing ball, but London’s rooftop bar scene is thriving. And now another spot has popped up – this one located atop John Lewis’ flagship store on Oxford Street. Perched on the building’s 6th floor is 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen, a rooftop garden complete with private greenhouses, perfect for al fresco socialising this summer and beyond.

1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen: New John Lewis Rooftop Opens

Named after the year John Lewis & Partners was founded, the bar and restaurant is the perfect pitstop for some food and drink after a day of shopping. Created by Benugo, the space comprises both an indoor bar and outdoor terrace complete with a selection of booths, decked out in striped fabric by Colours of Arley, alongside lush greenery from Underleaf.

From here guests can enjoy an array of dishes. Think small plates of lobster rolls, chorizo croquetas, seaweed tempura monkfish, Ibérico Bellota ham and crispy fried chicken, alongside salads and desserts including vegan chocolate mousse with crushed hazelnuts, and strawberries and cream.

These can be paired with cocktails, both classics and bespoke creations: the Oaxaca Martini is made with mezcal, tequila, lime and agave, while the Lychee Bramble is a blend of gin, Chambord and lemon and ginger syrup. The menu also includes a selection of wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks.

John Lewis’ flagship store initially opened as a drapery shop, and in the 1880s it was rebuilt as a department store. Its rooftop has housed a number of restaurants and pop-ups over the years, but this time round there’s more of an emphasis on the bar element – plus live music on Fridays and Saturdays to create more of a party feel.

1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen is open daily from 12pm until 10pm (9pm on Sundays). Find out more and book at 1864rooftopbar.co.uk
