This green salad is more exciting than it sounds

Viral TikTok recipes often veer into the decadent category (million dollar spaghetti, we’re looking at you), but the latest is a light, healthy dish: the green goddess salad. This isn’t your average salad recipe though: it’s more of a salad-dip hybrid, mixed to resemble a sort of guacamole. Read on for the recipe.

What Is TikTok’s Green Goddess Salad Recipe?

TikTok is awash with twists on the green goddess salad right now, but the original dish was created by Melissa Ben-Ishay. Although Melissa is best known for the cupcakes she bakes for her brand, Baked By Melissa, she went viral recently after posting a video for a chopped vegan salad. The recipe is made by combining green cabbage, cucumber and other veggies to create a kind of chunky dip, which you can enjoy alongside tortilla or pitta chips.

Green Goddess Salad Recipe

We’ve combined an array of takes on the green goddess salad to create the ultimate C&TH recipe.

Ingredients:

For the salad

  • 1 small green cabbage
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1-2 jalapenos
  • Bunch of spring onions
  • Pitta bread

For the dressing

  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • ⅓ cup of chives
  • Handful of roasted cashews
  • 1 cup of fresh basil
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C, fan 180°C.
  2. Chop up the cabbage, cucumber, jalapenos and spring onions into small pieces, and place them all in a large bowl.
  3. Slice the pitta bread into triangle pieces and place them on a baking tray. Season them and drizzle over some olive oil before baking them in the oven for 5–10 minutes until they are crispy.
  4. Blend all of the dressing ingredients until they become a smooth liquid.
  5. Pour the dressing over the salad and serve with a bowl of tortilla chips.
  6. Serve with the pitta chips.
