All hail the retro revival

Millennials might not be able to afford avocado toast, but they’ve at least been paying homage to the humble food in their bathrooms – or so say the people at Wickes. According to the brand’s Great Bathroom Report, avocado bathrooms (of ‘70s fame) are making a serious comeback.

Avocado Bathrooms Are Making A Comeback

Think about the trendiest interior design styles and green bathrooms might not spring to mind, but it seems like the ‘70s avocado aesthetic is becoming the next big thing. In fact, a recent report from Wickes suggests that more than a few ‘70s bathroom trends are back in vogue – from green tones to sauna-style wall panelling.

If you’re lusting after the avocado look, there are a few key ways you can employ the infamous green shade in a more contemporary style. Thinking about trying it out? Here’s how to get started.

How To Style An Avocado Bathroom

According to the Wickes team, avocado-inspired bathrooms now showcase ‘a much lighter touch, often using furniture and natural elements to channel the trend.’

To bring the look firmly into the 21st century, opt for dedicated green features rather than the colour-drenching approach: think ‘gorgeous bathroom tiles and bold baths or basins – but definitely not both,’ the Wickes report states.

For more retro nods, add a touch of panelling. ‘Tongue and groove panelling, rooted in the sauna-style pine work of 70s’ new builds, never seems to go truly out of fashion,’ the report continues. ‘It’s now undergoing an update with products like Wickes’ Naturepanel Hydrolock range, which can be used in wet areas such as shower enclosures,’ giving traditional slatted walls a stylish, contemporary feel.

Finally, if you’re ready to embrace the ‘70s look head on, consider installing cork floors. ‘Cork is also making a comeback,’ confirms the Wickes team. ‘Natural, sustainable, textured, and cosy underfoot, it’s an inexpensive bathroom flooring alternative to tiles. What’s not to love?’ Bring on the avo revival…
