We can't get enough of these Zoom background-ready spaces

Flexibility is the new working norm – but one thing we can all agree on is that it’s better to do it in inspiring surroundings. Streamlined co-working spaces prioritising beautiful design are fast becoming more covetable than private club memberships, and scent scaping, style-savvy breakout spaces and beautiful bathrooms are just as important as an ergonomic chair. Ready to give your own Ikea desk and cactus setup an update? Get inspired by these four design-led offices.

Ideas for Design-Led Offices

Barlow & Barlow

Barlow & Barlow

Blue, scratchy utility carpets, hard office chairs and overhead strip lighting move over; the ‘new’ in-office aesthetic is about creating an environment to inspire, intrigue, and add some joy to drizzly Monday mornings.

Take a leaf out of interior design studio Barlow & Barlow‘s book – which throws the rules out of the window in this jaunty meeting room. Playful fabrics (a signature of any Barlow & Barlow design) meets classic vintage furniture, some conversational art and lighting and a rich green colour palette. Whether you’re settling down for a quick coffee catch up or all-afternoon meetings – attention to detail is key and candles, dried flowers and some strategic greenery creates mood-boosting depth and personality.

Get the look with bold curtains or blinds, a lick of colourful paint, and an investment piece of  furniture which will stand the test of time and protect your back. For finishing touches, strategically arrange a few flowers, house plants, art and accessories in empty corners.

Eccleston yards

25EP, Eccleston Yards

Leading the way for private members’ club-style working spaces, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland is behind the dapper new look at 25EP. If you’ve switched to home-working since lockdown but are looking for more of a hybrid – this flexible working space is for you. Along with all of the facilities you need for both work and play, luxurious hotel-worthy touches take the 9-5 to the next level.

Deep, plush velvet seating, rich paint colours and beautiful period features all feature in the interiors – and meeting rooms are designed to create an unforgettable first impression with mural walls. The building is scented by Harris Reed (also the scent partner for Grosvenor hotels) and you can pick between working in glass pods, smart communal bar/kitchens (like this one) or hot desks in the streamlined office spaces. Nor will you have to leave your four-legged best friend at home – as 25EP is completely dog friendly.

Step outside into Eccleston Yard and you’ll find a Barry’s Bootcamp, Hotpod Yoga studio and smart restaurants and wine bars all on the doorstep. As is the case with all of Grosvenor’s properties, special effort goes into reducing environmental impact and the building is powered by green energy, alongside programmes to reduce waste and maximising recycling.

Hot desks, permanent desks and private offices accommodating two to 50 people.  25-ep.com

34 Boar Lane

34 Boar Lane

34 Boar Lane in Leeds masters the art of the cool yet professional working space with its pared back, contemporary industrial look. Located in a historic building in the city centre, this stylish co-working space offers single desks, offices and even on-site podcast studios. You might also find yourself wandering past the odd exhibition or live music event on the way back from a tea break – as some of 34 Boar Lane’s larger spaces are also available for event hire which all adds to the atmosphere. The aesthetic concept (masterminded by manager-owners Kinrise, which has a passion for handcrafted, British furnishings) is inspired by the Los Angeles art scene. Think cool, calming neutral palettes, contemporary lighting, interesting artworks and laid back break out areas.

Aldgate Tower

Aldgate Tower

First impressions are everything. For a little inspiration to add some ‘wow’ to your reception (no matter how big or small) take notes on this contemporary, subtly-biophilic reception at Aldgate Tower in Whitechapel. Multidisciplinary London design studio Basha-Franklin are behind this refresh, which contrasts texture and colour for a lively yet balanced scheme. Proving the reception should be just as thought-out as the rest of your offices or working space, spatial planning, structural furniture and cool East coast colours are cleverly utilised  to make an entrance that pops. If you have a smaller reception area to work with (or just a single office) get a similar look on a smaller scale with a retro chair, some graphic fabrics or wallpaper and a few house plants.
