Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE visited Christ’s Hospital School to talk to senior students about his incredible story.
The talk was part of numerous events carried out to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Mathmatical Society at Christ’s Hospital.
Sir Ranulph has spent his life looking for adventure and participating in expeditions, and is labelled in the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’.
He is the only person to this day to circumnavigate the North and South Pole, the first person to cross the Antarctic and Arctic Ocean, the first to circumnavigate along the world’s polar axis and the first to discover the lost city of Iram in Oman.
During his talk, he discussed failing his A-levels at Eton, serving in the British Army and getting kicked out of the SAS.
Year 13 Student, Ziyad said: ‘Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ speech was truly inspiring, covering his incredible voyages across the globe, through the glacial waters of the Antarctic, dry plains of the desert, and high barren mountains.’
Year 11 student, Kamsy, said: ‘Fiennes’ talk was a rollercoaster ride of adventure stories and life lessons. He had us all hooked, from his stories about serving in Arabia, to his adventures about breaking world records and his funny jokes.’
Head Teacher of Christ Hospital School, Simon Reid, added: ‘I have no doubt his inspiring talk will be remembered by students and staff alike for years to come.’
