Greene’s College Oxford to Cover VAT on Retakes

Greene’s College Oxford has announced that it will cover the Value Added Tax (VAT) on A level retake programmes for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. This initiative comes in response to the U.K. government’s decision to impose VAT on private education, a new policy expected to take effect later this academic year. The policy has been met with concern from parents and educators, who fear the additional financial burden it will place on families. 

In response, Greene’s College Oxford, known for its bespoke tuition and examination preparation services, has chosen to absorb the VAT costs for students retaking one or more of their A level subjects. The decision aims to ease the financial strain on families and ensure that students’ education remains uninterrupted by the new tax policy. It also recognises the practical difficulty of finding alternative A level retake options that many families face. 

Christopher Upton, Executive Chairman of Greene’s, emphasised the institution’s commitment to student welfare, stating, ‘Our priority has always been the success and wellbeing of our students. By covering the VAT on retake programmes, we hope to ensure that financial barriers do not impede the options for students’ who need to retake their A levels. This measure reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education, especially during challenging times.’
