The Country & Town House Responsible Buyers’ Guide
What Is A Denim Maxi Skirt?
A denim maxi skirt is, as it suggests, a long style of skirt (usually sitting somewhere between the ankle and calf) made from denim. The style was first introduced to mainstream fashion in the 1970s as a way to repurpose worn denim trousers and has since grown in popularity – and today, it’s perhaps most synonymous with the low-slung jean skirts of the 2000s. These were worn in endless styles (think low-waisted with frayed hems, asymmetric hemlines held up by chunky belts) and a rainbow of colours, and are quickly coming back into fashion as milder weather sets in.
The same can be said for the runway. While mini skirts remain popular, they are certainly rivalled by longer hemlines. Fashion for 2024 is forecasted to be all about form-fitting styles made to flatter and embrace everybody’s body type, and so, love it or loathe it, hemlines are dropping to the floor.  Â

Dinner & Drinks
Denim isn’t just for casual outings – it can quite easily be elevated for dressier occasions like dinner and drinks with friends. Simply swap out the t-shirt and trainers for a smart shirt and heels, and accessorise with simple jewellery and a statement bag. The perfect day-to-night fit that is as stylish as it is elegant.

Y2K Revival
Another option for the denim maxi skirt is to lean completely into the throwback Y2K aesthetic. We especially like the nostalgic boho chic look, which can be achieved with the addition of a tank top, chunky sandals and a tote bag. An easy wear for casual outings.

Casual Fridays
Speaking of casual, you can dress down the denim maxi skirt for quieter days by opting for a cosy knit and a pair of (ever-popular) suede mules (preferably with a some fluffy socks separating foot from shoe). We can imagine this being a go-to fit on lazy weekend afternoons before the heat of summer or the cold of winter really sets in.

City Dweller Aesthetic
Urbanites will no doubt be reaching for their leather jackets as soon as they get a look at a denim maxi skirt – and we can’t blame them. The two pair perfectly together, and are great when it comes to battling transitional weather. Team up with matching boots or a comfy pair of trainers.
