SS24 Trends To Know Now

As far as trends go, this is a season of contrasts. Vibrant shocks of colour go head-to-head with a soft gothic palette, while sleek office attire battles it out with party-ready metallics and teeny-tiny knickers try to nab the top springtime symbol from florals (which remains, as expected, groundbreaking). Intrigued? These are the biggest SS24 trends to have on your radar:

1. Colour Drench

Goodbye grey skies, hello sunshine. Once again, the fashion industry celebrates the return of summer with all things bright and colourful – but this season, the saturation is set to turn up a notch. Slashes of colour graced the SS24 runway with the return of colour drenching (previously known through its like-minded cousins Dopamine Dressing and Column Dressing), a trend that decks out the wearer in an outfit centring on just one colour (hence the idea that you are ‘drenched’ in one colour). The general consensus amongst designers this season is: the brighter, the better.

2. Keep It Brief

Did we really stand a chance of escaping the tiny knickers trend after Kendall Jenner touted it on the streets of LA? Unlikely. The SS24 runway was awash with models strutting their stuff in super-short briefs, from Rotate’s ruffle-clad knickers (available with matching shawl) to Versace’s pastel-hued knitted panties (paired with matching cardigans, of course). Those tempted to brave the trend in a more paired back manner can nab some inspiration from Remain and drape a sheer, beaded skirt over their briefs.

3. Soft Goth

Over a year since Gothcore took to the runway and the trend shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Where previous seasons looked to gothic glamour and femme fatale silhouettes, SS24’s iteration of the trend will take on a softer approach. Emphasis lies heavily on the romantic gothic, with flowing gowns, floral detailing, intricate knitwork, lace and ruffles. The monochromatic colour palette, as always, will still be sitting front and centre.

4. Klein Blue

Barbie pink might have been on everyone’s radar last year, but SS24 saw the return of deep, vivid blue hues on the runway. The shift coincides with Burberry’s buzzy blue makeover, courtesy of new Creative Director Daniel Lee, and could be seen making its way across various fashion weeks throughout the SS24 presentation season. Burberry’s specific brand of blue is synonymous with the shade mixed by French artist Yves Klein in the 1960s – a vibrant, velvety shade that designers seem to be loving right now.

5. Double Denim

More blue with the next trend – the 90s called, but they’re not getting their double denim back. Denim was by far one of the most popular textiles of choice on the SS24 runway, and with our growing fondness for nostalgia it was only a matter of time before double denim came back to stake its claim on our wardrobes. You can expect the usual suspects – jeans, denim shirts, jackets and dresses – as well as newcomers like denim trench coats, boots and dip-dyed co-ords.

6. Mirror Mirror

Mirror mirror on the wall, name the shiniest SS24 trend of them all… The runway has shown us that sparkles and sequins need to be relegated to winter party season, as metallics continue to shine through whatever the weather. Silver tones seem to be leading the fray this time around, showcased in metallic leathers, rhinestones, sequins and precious gems. It’s certainly one for the magpies amongst us.

7. Babydoll Blues

One silhouette that stood out from the crowd this season was the babydoll dress, characterised by its loose fit A-shape and short hemline. While these dresses came in various styles, from ruffles and lace to pom poms and puff sleeves, many designers opted for more a ‘innocent’ look – think modest necklines and shades of ivory, white and powder blue.

8. Office Chic

It’s back to the office for most of us these days – you will be sorely missed, WFH era – but rather than fall back on the stereotypically stuffy business attire, we’re noticing a shift towards high-fashion office attire. Think modern co-ords, a rise in pinstripe and check prints, angular silhouettes and even a fun shift towards denim tailoring.

9. 3D Florals

We could go into a spiel about how groundbreaking florals are for spring – but we’d rather just show you. Our favourite springtime favourite is back with a bang this season, forgoing print and fine details in favour of big, bold statements. Florals are set to take on a more sculptural role in fashion, reaching out to the wearer in fun shapes and textures. Think corsages, trailing vines, silhouette sculpting and even (when the occasion calls for them) bouquets of fresh flowers.

10. Sheer Cheer

We can see straight through this trend – which is why we love it so much. Designers have been getting more and more creative with sheer fabrics, using them to create sexy peek-a-boo panels, show off intricate embroidery, accentuate delicate patterns and add a little bit of sparkle to otherwise bland colour palettes. The result is a textural feast for the eyes.
