What Is A Bougie Bob?

‘A bougie bob is a short hairstyle with a classic bob shape – although it leans towards the longer end of the spectrum, skimming just above the shoulders,’ explains Gennaro Costabile, Creative Director at ADEM London. Gennaro tells us this is a full, heavier rendition of the classic bob, with ‘soft, blunt ends that add weight, giving the hair an extra thick appearance.’

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t too dissimilar from the original; it’s simply elevated. ‘I don’t think it’s so different from other bobs,’ notes Gennaro. ‘It’s just a personalised touch with a bit of graduation, perfect for women who love volume and movement.’

Who Suits This Cut?

Since this is a cut based on personalisation, Gennaro tells us it’s easy to adapt for any hair type or face shape. ‘The bougie bob is suitable for almost anyone,’ he confirms. ‘After a consultation, your stylist might recommend this cut to make it more unique compared to a flat bob.’

How To Ask For A Bougie Bob In The Salon

Communication is key when it comes to refining you bougie bob in the salon. ‘It’s important to discuss your preferences with your stylist during a consultation,’ adds Gennaro. ‘Be clear about wanting a polished, longer bob with soft, blunt ends and some graduation if you like volume and movement. Bringing reference photos could also help.’

How To Style A Bougie Bob

As for styling, Gennaro notes that this cut ‘works best when polished and smooth. Just apply some hair oil to the ends and you’re good to go.’ This is a bob that already has volume, so refining it with glossy styling will help it really stand out.
