We ask the experts why more men are investing in cosmetic procedures
While many men may feel that what they have is Kenough when it comes to their appearance, others are venturing out into the world of aesthetic treatments to explore their options. Enter Brotox, the new buzzword to hit TikTok.
What Is Brotox?
‘Brotox is a generic term used to describe Botox treatments specifically targeted towards men. It involves the use of Botulinum Toxin injections to reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face,’ says Emma Wedgwood, an aesthetic nurse and founder of Emma Wedgwood Aesthetics. ‘There has been a noticeable increase in the number of men getting Botox treatments in recent years. The stigma surrounding cosmetic procedures for men is gradually diminishing, leading to a rise in their popularity.’
Why Are More Men Getting Botox?
While 10 years ago the idea may have been scoffed at, these days more men than ever are opting to try cosmetic procedures – with the BAAPS National Audit noting that in 2022 men made up seven percent of all cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK, a rise of 118 percent since the year prior. But why the sudden surge? ‘Several factors contribute to this trend,’ says Dr. Tara Francis, an advanced facial aesthetician and founder of Enhance by Tara. ‘Men are becoming more conscious of their appearance and wellness, and societal norms are shifting to be more accepting of men seeking aesthetic treatments. The desire to maintain a youthful and refreshed look in a competitive job market could also be a motivator.’

Popular media and social platforms are also suggested to have swung the trend, with many citing the Barbie live action (and its army of well-kept, good-looking Kens) as a recent motivator for the uptick in interest. ‘The influence of media, including movies like Barbie, can impact perceptions of beauty ideals,’ adds Dr. Francis. ‘If such media portrays men undergoing cosmetic procedures positively, it might contribute to an increase in interest. However, it’s only one of several factors influencing this trend.’
Over on TikTok, where searches for ‘brotox‘ sit at 17.8 million views and ‘male botox‘ at 7.8 billion views, creators (both aestheticians and men receiving Botox) share the benefits and experience of getting Brotox – creating an open space where men can freely explore the procedure and work out whether it’s right for them.
@jtmedical_aesthetics Let’s talk “Brotox” Brotox also know as anti wrinkle treatments for men. Botulinum Toxin is becoming much more popular in men for the treatment of anti aging and wrinkles. I offer a clinic for both male/female clients. I understand from a male perspective that it can be quite overwhelming attending an aesthetics clinic. I want to reassure you there is a big proportion of my client base who are male, despite a lot of my social media post featuring females. What Are The Benefits Of Botox?
This leads us to the question of why we should get Botox in the first place. ‘For starters, Botox offers aesthetic benefits which can impact positively on psychological health,’ says Dr. Sabina Hanoman-Singh, an aesthetic doctor at CREO Clinic. ‘It effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles (including forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines) by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscles. This provides smoother and more youthful skin, which in turn can enhance self-esteem and confidence.
‘Botox is also a non-surgical option, making it less invasive with shorter recovery periods (and more affordable) compared to surgical alternatives,’ she continues. ‘Additionally, its versatility allows it to address various concerns, such as brow asymmetry, excessive sweating and migraines.’

And What’s The Procedure Like?
For those who are curious, Dr. Hanoman-Singh outlines the process of getting Botox: ‘During a Botox procedure, a medical professional injects small amounts of Botulinum Toxin into specific facial muscles with a very small needle. This will start to work over the next one or two weeks by temporarily restricting the movement of those muscles and smoothing out wrinkles in the process.
‘The procedure usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, with minimal discomfort,’ she continues. ‘Downtime is minimal, and most individuals can resume regular activities immediately. Results typically last three to four months, after which follow-up treatments are required to maintain the effects. These top-up treatments can help prolong the benefits of Botox.’
