Spooky season is in the air – and it’s finally made its way into salons. And while ghosts, black cats and vampire talons might be high on the list of manicure trends, it’s the humble pumpkin we have our eye on this season. Get into the Halloween spirit with one of these pumpkin nail designs.

What Are Pumpkin Nails?

Taking inspiration from seasonal vegetable patches and general Halloween spookiness, a pumpkin manicure features the classic gourd as the focal point of nail designs. It’s a great way to get into the 31st October celebrations, and also nicely tap into the cosy palette of a pumpkin spice mani.

And since there are no strict rules around the trend – except, of course, to have some kind of pumpkin colour or decal – there’s plenty of opportunity to get creative. Maximalists can go all out with 3D nail art and detailed pumpkin designs, while minimalists can dip a toe (and hand) into the trend with simple line art, shades of orange and pumpkin French tips.

How To Ask For Pumpkin Nails In The Salon

For those following along at home, we’ve condensed Ally’s video into the following guide:

1. Prep your nails and apply a base coat of your chosen colour.
2. Create a heart-shaped tip at the end of the nail, using a shade of orange. You may need a few coats.
3. If you want a bit of sparkle, you can add some glitter to each pumpkin with a clear glitter polish. If not, move on to the next step.
4. Using black polish and a fine line brush, draw the outline of your pumpkin onto each nail. You can then add details like the stalk, leaves and vines.
5. Finish with a clear top coat.
