Get ready, jet-set, slumber
The hustle and bustle of daily life often leaves us craving a good night’s sleep – and while we might love the comfort of our own bed, sometimes it just doesn’t quite cut it. Thankfully, a growing number of specialised sleep retreats around the globe are offering weary travellers the chance to disconnect, decompress and rediscover the restorative power of quality slumber. Not sure where to start? These are some of the best luxury getaways to keep in mind for your next sleepcation.
What Is A Sleep Retreat?
A sleep retreat is essentially a specialised getaway designed to give guests as restful an experience as possible. Not all retreats use the same methods, but the overall goal is to improve overall sleep health while addressing issues like stress, jet lag, insomnia or other sleep disturbances.
Some of the things you might find at a luxury sleep retreat include:
- Consultations with sleep experts
- Relaxing activities like yoga, meditation, massage and breathwork sessions
- Treatments like CBD massages, flotation therapy and aromatherapy, which promote sleep
- Specialised room service options, like pillow menus, sleepy teas, blackout curtains, crystals and sound machines
- Natural or isolated locations that provide a reprieve from city life
- Educational workshops and personalised advice
Find The Best Night’s Sleep At These International Hotspots
HOTEL de LËN, Italy
The primary focus at this idyllic mountainside hotel is on cultivating a spectacularly soothing stay for every guest. A sister stay to Puglia sensation Borgo Egnazia, HOTEL de LËN can be found in Cortina d’Ampezzo, a quaint mountain town nestled in the Dolomites – and with its wood-sculpted rooms (made from reclaimed fir and Swiss pine) and large windows overlooking the peaks, the vibe is very much chalet chic.
Rooms are designed with rest in mind, from the bed – a large, plush thing decked out with a Magma13 Sleep Radiance Panel, which reorganises and restores natural ambient energy to promote better sleep – to the Orpheus filters that capture and shield against radiation emitted from devices.
And if that wasn’t enough, the rooftop spa at HOTEL de LËN should do the trick to instil a sense of calm. It’s here where you can find morning yoga classes, a very tempting spa treatment menu (with plenty of muscle-melting massages to ease the tension away), various saunas, a steam room and an ice waterfall – all of which overlook a rather stunning view of the mountains. For the ultimate wellness experience, make sure to book the Spa By Night package, which comes with a three-course private dinner, a massage treatment and exclusive after-hours access to the spa.
Details: The Sleep programme at HOTEL de LËN starts at €1,275 on B&B basis (based on two people sharing). The package includes two nights, Spa By Night: 5 Senses experience, and a yoga session. hoteldelen.it

HOSHINOYA Bali, Indonesia
The first HOSHINOYA venue located outside of Japan is a masterclass in luxurious minimalism and slow living. Comprised of 30 villas, the Indonesian resort was designed by Rie Azuma and takes its cues from Hindu temples and traditional Balinese culture. Nestled within the valley of the Tukad Pakerisan – and tucked between lush green hills and jungles – this is an excellent spot for an immersive wellness break.
Balancing Balinese warmth with Japanese hospitality’s hands off approach makes this a rather private, secluded retreat, structured by your own needs – if you just want to recline by the pool then you’re in luck; the villas are arranged around three pools, with a private section allocated to each villa – as well as various activities designed to boost each guest’s wellbeing. For the sleep-weary, we recommend joining the resort’s Moonlight Stretch sessions, which invite guests to relax with gentle yoga under the moonlight to promote a restful night’s sleep.
HOSHINOYA Bali also recently launched a new wellness break, the Holistic Ritual of Sacred Valley, inspired by traditional Balinese spa rituals. Taking place over five days and four nights, the retreat focuses on relaxing the body, mind and soul through a combination of experiences that include water purification and renewal, muscle stretching, Balinese dance lessons and nutritious dishes. Guests will also be able to take their pick from a series of daily spa rituals designed to promote holistic wellness, spanning from soothing massages to detoxifying body wraps.
Details: The Holistic Ritual of Sacred Valley five-day wellness package at HOSHINOYA Bali starts from 19.58m Indonesian Rupiah (approx. £959.50) per person. Includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as all activities within the itinerary. hoshinoresorts.com
Sal Salis, Australia
For those craving a slower pace of life away from the city, a beachfront escape in the heart of Australia’s Cape Range National Park is in order. Sal Salis is the ultimate eco-luxe nature retreat, comprised of 15 tents that sit just a stone’s throw away from Ningaloo Reef, the world’s largest fringing World Heritage-listed coral reef.
Working under a lease agreement with Western Australia’s Parks and Wildlife Service, five percent of turnover at Sal Salis goes to Western Australia’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Parks and Wildlife Service to assist its conservation work in the Cape Range National Park – but the work to ensure that the camp remains a friend to nature doesn’t stop there.
During their visit, guests will find themselves happily off-grid in a spacious, solar-powered camp lifted above the ground on boardwalks to protect local floral and fauna. Each tent is allocated 20 litres of water per person, per day, with a three-minute shower time policy – although drinking water can be refilled at camp, and any used bottles and cans are separated and returned to the Exmouth Recycle Depot to ensure a low waste environment.
Some of the activities available to guests include nightly stargazing, guided gorge walks (during which you can explore the park’s ecosystem by foot), whale shark swimming and snorkelling.
Details: A King/Twin Wilderness Tent (fits two people) at Sal Salis for two nights starts from £1,858. salsalis.com
The Retreat Hotel At Blue Lagoon, Iceland
This award-winning luxury resort has been an A-lister favourite since it opened in 2018, with celebrities flocking to the 60-suite hotel (and, subsequently, to its subterranean spa, Michelin-starred restaurant and private lagoon). The Retreat Hotel is nestled in an 800-year-old lava field in the heart of the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark, and promises a complete change of scenery for every weary traveller.
All hotel stays come with unlimited access to the Retreat Spa and Retreat Lagoon (which sources its waters from the same healing waters as the original Blue Lagoon), as well as morning yoga sessions overlooking the volcanic frontier and specially designed (and award-winning) skincare waiting in every suite.
But if you really want to up the ante, then a session of float therapy is the first thing to book during your stay. We’d recommend booking a solo session, where you experience a one-to-one relationship with your float therapist, for 45 minutes of weightless relaxation and gentle massaging.
Details: A stay at The Retreat Hotel at Blue Lagoon start from ISK 220,000, with a Solo Float Therapy session priced at ISK 24,900. bluelagoon.com

1 Hotel Mayfair
Having only opened its doors on London’s Berkeley Street in 2023, 1 Hotel Mayfair is a newer addition to the city’s hospitality scene. Built around biophilic interior design and urban escapism, the hotel is already a pretty relaxing environment for guests – but its new Rest & Reset package makes it all the easier to retreat here for a stay full of blissful rest.
The package has been curated by 1 Hotel Mayfair, and kicks off before you even get into your suite; hotel staff will perform a ritualistic saging of your room not long before check-in to cleanse the space and instil an aura of tranquillity (a fresh slate, if you will). You’ll also be invited to try your fill of Bamford’s B Silent collection, comprised of organic bath oils and body creams designed to help you relax for the night. A selection of sleepy teas will also be delivered to your room just before bed, so you can drift off in absolute calm (and with a warmed, full stomach).
Guests on the package will also receive £160 in spa credit, which they can use in the hotel’s Bamford Wellness Spa – with pre-booked treatments and more Bamford products on offer. Once thoroughly relaxed in the spa, you’ll no doubt find yourself well and truly rested.
