On the lookout for the latest summer trends? Just when we thought the 2024 trend forecasts were done and dusted, Pinterest re-enters the chat with another report – and this one is all about what’s looking hot from June to September. We’ve honed in on what the platform thinks will be some of the biggest jewellery trends of summer 2024, and the results, we’re pleased to say, are pleasingly maximalist.
Jewellery In Focus: The Pinterest Summer Trends Report 2024
Big and bold is the name of the jewellery game this summer, with Pinterest revealing in its seasonal trend report that maximalism is, once again, on the up. ‘This summer will be full of rock and roll style, alternative outfits, eye-catching patterns and unconventional silhouettes,’ said the platform. ‘Bold fashion allows individuals to showcase their unique personalities and individuality. In a world where self-expression is highly valued, bold fashion offers a means of creativity and confidence, empowering individuals to break free from conventional norms and embrace their own distinct style.’
In terms of jewellery stats, the platform revealed search increases for the following terms:
- Maximalist jewellery +3460%
- Eclectic jewellery +3410%
- Thigh jewellery +850%
- Chunky gold jewellery +700%
- Charm necklaces +630%
- Bag charms +240%
‘The data highlights a significant surge in searches for maximalist and eclectic styles, signalling a shift towards bigger and more expressive pieces of jewellery,’ explains Arwa Hassan, in-house style director at online jewellery label PRYA. ‘This summer, more is more – it’s a perfect time to experiment and express your own individuality through accessories. We have seen a huge increase in personalised pieces and charm jewellery specifically, as it’s named the 2024 cool girl jewellery trend.’
1. Maximalist Jewellery
According to Pinterest, the motto for this summer is ‘go big, or go home’. Searches on maximalism are at an all-time high on the platform, with ‘maximalist jewellery’ seeing a huge 3460 percent increase in searches. ‘Expect to see bold, oversized pieces that demand attention and add a touch of extravagance to any outfit,’ say the PYRA team. ‘Fashionistas with lots of personality often inject maximalist jewellery pieces into their wardrobes as a form of self expression, displaying bright and chunky pieces to catch attention.
‘To nail the maximalist jewellery trend, start by selecting one or two statement pieces,’ they continue. ‘The basis of a maximalist jewellery collection should start with a chunky metal chain necklace, preferably something that fills in as the showstopper piece. It’s also no secret that 2024 has cemented the love for statement earrings, celebrities often use statement earrings as the focal point. Drop earrings have withstood the fragile trend cycle and are here to stay.’
2. Eclectic Jewellery
Jewellery mix-and-matcher? If the answer is yes, then you’re alreadty on-trend. ‘Eclectic jewellery is all about creativity and combines a mix of styles, colours and materials to create a unique and personalised look,’ says PYRA. ‘This trend is perfect for those who love to experiment and express their individuality through accessories.
‘To achieve this look, try mixing and matching pieces that may not traditionally go together,’ they recommend. ‘Combine vintage style pieces with modern designs, or mix bold colours with neutral tones. Layer delicate chains with chunky pieces, and don’t hesitate to include a variety of gemstones, beads or charms.’
3. Thigh Jewellery
It’s one of the more unexpected trends of the season, but we can see thigh jewellery being a hit on the beach and in the club this summer. ‘This daring accessory is perfect for those looking to push the boundaries of traditional jewellery,’ says the PYRA team. ‘Thigh chains or bands can add a touch of glamour to summer outfits, especially for festivals or beach clubs.’
4. Chunky Gold Jewellery
‘Gold never goes out of style, but this summer it’s all about the chunkier, the better,’ highlights the team at PYRA. ‘Chunky gold jewellery has seen a 700 percent rise in interest, indicating that classic gold pieces are being reimagined with a modern twist. And, with maximalism taking the lead, we’re thinking of thick and substantial pieces that make a statement.
‘To embrace the chunky gold jewellery trend, opt for thick gold chains, statement earrings or bold cuff bracelets,’ they continue. ‘Pair a chunky gold necklace or statement earrings with a simple white top to let the jewellery do all the talking. Bold, chunky rings exude confidence and are a way of making a statement without opening your mouth. Don’t be afraid to wear multiple chunky pieces together, but make sure to balance them with more minimalist clothing to avoid overwhelming your look.’
5. Charm Necklaces
Personalised jewellery is also proving to be a hit this season, especially when it comes to necklaces. ‘Charm jewellery in all its forms has a long history, often bringing back memories of creating personalised necklaces and bracelets during childhood,’ says the PYRA team. ‘Whether it’s initials, symbols or tiny trinkets – charm necklaces are a fun way to personalise your jewellery collection. A bold statement piece deserves to be on show, so wear your charm necklace over a linen dress or white button up shirt. ‘
6. Bag Charms
With the ‘Jane Birkinifying‘ trend still doing the rounds on TikTok, it’s not much of a surprise to see bag charms becoming a quiet hit amongst the masses. ‘These small yet impactful additions can transform any bag into a statement piece,’ says PYRA. ‘This trend is about decorating your bag with fun, stylish, and sometimes quirky charms. To achieve the look, simply select bag charms that reflect your own personality and interests and attach them to handles or the zips of your bags.’
