We’re sensing a cosmic shift coming up. It can only mean one thing: Venus retrograde is just around the corner. What Is Venus Retrograde?

In planetary terms, Venus retrograde refers to the optical illusion when Venus appears to move backwards in the sky (as seen from Earth). The phenomenon takes place when Earth passes Venus in its orbit around the sun, roughly after 18 months.

But in astrology, the event takes on a whole new meaning. ‘During this period, we’re more likely to reflect on our values, beliefs, self-esteem, love and finances,’ explains Iva Naskova, a psychic at spiritual guidance platform Nebula.

For the more astrologically invested, this could be an explainer for any major dramas that occur during this time – think reality TV-style breakups and makeups, mini meltdowns or money mayhem. Some also consider it a period of changing perspectives, brought on by greater self-reflection.

This is why, Iva warns us, during this period ‘it’s important to take time to think carefully before reconnecting with an old love, job or investment, as well as before spending money or starting a new business endeavour.’

When Is It?

Venus typically goes into retrograde every 18 months, for about 40 days. ‘This year, Venus will be in retrograde motion from March 1 to April 13, starting in Aries (1-27 March) and moving into Pisces (27 March to 13 April),’ adds Iva.

After this, the next Venus retrograde won’t begin until 3 October 2026, when it falls in the signs of Scorpio and Libra.

Venus Retrograde Is In Aries And Pisces – What Does That Mean?

If the event happens to fall during your sign’s period – this year it spans March and April, during Aries and Pisces season – then it could mean that you feel the effects of Venus more strongly. (So if things feel a little more chaotic than usual over these months, this could be why.)

The last time these signs experienced Venus retrograde like this was around 17 years ago – so if you remember any big (or dramatic) experiences from that year, maybe consider taking extra precautions to avoid a repeat.

More generally, the signs that host Venus retrograde can also signify themes that will influence all signs throughout the 40 days.
