F1 & Cruising: The Future
Luxury cruising and Formula 1: they’re two of life’s ultimate luxury pursuits, but not known for being the most eco-conscious industries. But there are the capacity and resources available within both to be a real driving force for change. So, what progress is being made? Aston Martin F1 team partner Aramco made history by becoming the first to commit to using 100 percent renewable fuel by 2026. The team has achieved ISO 50001 certification, a globally recognised standard for energy management systems, making it the first Formula One team to comply with this environmental standard.
During a factory tour at the Aston Martin Aramco F1 HQ, we witnessed how budget caps within the sport are also leading to less waste and increased reuse and recycling in every aspect of production. This duality between responsible individual and business choices and governance intervention shows where the most headway is possible. Meanwhile, Regent Seven Seas Cruises has signed up to the Race To Zero campaign to be net zero by 2050, implementing environmental stewardship campaigns and promoting responsible waste management. But there remains some way to go before F1 or large-scale cruising become the most eco-friendly endeavours.
