Challengers: Where Was Zendaya’s Upcoming Tennis Movie Filmed?

If you haven’t heard of Challengers yet, where have you been? As the press tour continues, you might have spotted some of Zendaya’s smashing tenniscore outfits, seen social media commentary on the result of three introverts (ie the actors behind the film’s three main characters) having to hold court in interviews, and heard interviewers asking invasive questions galore. And, frankly, all of this has us more excited than ever to watch Luca Guadagnino’s love triangle tennis flick. Where Was Challengers Filmed?

Challengers was filmed in Boston and at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts from 3 May to 26 June 2022. According to the MA Film Office, other Massachusetts towns used for filming include Bedford, Beverly, Braintree, Canton, Framingham and Lynn.

Wheaton College

This Massachusetts college has a starring role in Challengers, with its Haas Athletics Center, Chapel Field and Chase and Emerson dining halls all featuring in the movie. The biggest scene stealers, though, are Wheaton’s pristine tennis courts, which stand in for Westchester County. In the background, some Wheaton students even star as extras. wheatoncollege.edu

Most of the film’s locations were kept under wraps during filming as much as possible due to fears that Zendaya’s loyal fans – as well as paparazzi – would interrupt. For example, while Tashi (Zendaya) plays at the US Open, these scenes were not filmed in Queens at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center where the tournament is held, but at smaller venues in Massachusetts instead.

The Press Tour

If you’re wondering where Zendaya and her co-stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist have recently been spotted, the answer is: everywhere. Stops on their buzzy press tour have included Sydney, Rome, Milan, London, Paris and more, with a particularly apt stop in Monte Carlo. While the team was touring Europe, they visited the Monte Carlo Masters, a prestigious annual tennis tournament for male players, ironically held just over the border in France.

Naturally, Zendaya donned another chic tenniscore outfit, this time channelling serious Wimbledon vibes in all-white, perfect for the outdoor tournament setting.
