(Hint: the trend is Courteney Cox-approved)

We know that Courteney Cox is an advocate for the invisible kitchen, but she’s also showcased a rather coveted kitchen style: the moody, minimalist look. Fancy giving it a try? Here’s everything you need to know.

Everything You Need To Know About The Moody Kitchen Trend

Sleek, white kitchens might look particularly Pinterest-worthy, but there’s a new style making waves in the interiors world, and it’s all about darker tones. Swap white units for wood, bright countertops for grey or black, and creamy palettes for sultry shades and you’ve got yourself a stylish, on-trend kitchen – one that looks remarkably like Courteney Cox’s viral Malibu home.

So, where do you start? According to the experts at Magnet, it’s all about the worktops. ‘Courteney showcases black granite worktops which provides great visual depth and texture,’ they explain. ‘The natural variations and flecks within the stone create a dynamic surface that can catch the light, making the kitchen look more sophisticated and luxurious.’

Plus, if you don’t feel like embracing a fully monochromatic kitchen, dark worktops pair brilliantly with wooden cabinets. This helps to create a warm, natural feel, says the Magnet team, with ‘rich wooden surfaces allowing you to embrace biophilic design.’

Tom Howley, Creative Design Director of the eponymous bespoke kitchen company, also notes a move towards ‘warm neutrals, natural woods, and textural layers.’ Particularly popular in 2024 is ‘a combination of blonde and warm-toned woods, off-white cabinetry, and tactile stone surfaces in the kitchen.’

Meanwhile, moody kitchens are also grounded in minimalism, which is where the invisible kitchen concept comes in. Show off those statement dark countertops by ensuring clutter is hidden away using clever storage solutions. Think large butler’s pantries, hidden cupboards and tall cabinets.
