Cranleigh Prep Heading to Science Quiz Finals

On Thursday 29th April, Cranleigh Prep took part in the Science Quiz Club area heats. This is a competition the Prep Schools has entered for the last few years but it normally takes place in groups of 10 school teams.
This time they were competing with 45 teams. Due to the current restrictions, the event took place virtually for the first time. Year 6 pupils took part in the morning and Year 5 in the afternoon, with each year group entering three teams.
The teams in the morning collaborated well together, answering the questions accurately and, at the beginning, were topping the leader board. Whilst no Year 6 teams made it through to the final, all the pupils who took part did a fantastic job, competing for the school (and in front of their peers).
It was Year 5’s turn in the afternoon. Again all three teams did very well, working together, answering questions with increasing difficulty and within the 30 seconds time frame. They responded to everything from dinosaurs to John Logie Baird.
Mrs Tamsin Groocock, Head of Science, says ‘I am delighted to say that one team, consisting of Leo F, Zoe S-H, Josh G and Charlie F came second with an overall score of 1800 points, just shy of the 1860 points from the leading team. This means that they have been asked to attend the overall final on 1st July. This is a fantastic achievement – well done!’
