Annual Drinks Reception, Wednesday 15 January 2020, 18:30
Six good reasons for educating your children outside London
Prep schools – Highfield and Brookham, Elstree School and Hanford – and senior schools – Downe House, Marlborough College and Radley – are hosting their annual drinks reception, ‘Educating Outside London’, at Beaufort House, Chelsea, on Wednesday 15 January 2020.
Aimed at parents with children under the age of ten and considering an education in a country school environment, a representative from each of the six hosting schools will give a talk on the benefits of an education outside London.
Phillip Evitt, Highfield School’s Headmaster says, ‘We all hear about the “pressure cooker” education overwhelming young children in London’s private schools. Our drinks reception will let London parents hear about the opportunities outside the city, that we believe help to avoid the destruction of childhood.’
Discussion topics are set to include:
– the importance of keeping schools mentally healthy
– the arguments for and against co-education and single sex schools
– the advantages of having outdoor space and time to play with
– whether boarding or day is right for your child?
All set in an informal and relaxed venue, parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions to these experts in their fields.
‘We are extremely lucky to be situated in such a glorious country location with access to so much outdoor space,’ says Sid Inglis, headmaster of Elstree School. ‘Keeping our schools mentally healthy is of paramount importance, and being outside as much as we are for lessons, sport, mindfulness and fun, helps our children and staff to maintain a happy balance between work and play.’
In addition to this, Rory Johnston, headmaster at Hanford explains that ‘children flourish because they are given the time and space to be children. While [Hanford] maintains the highest academic standards, we also want our girls to learn to face life’s opportunities and challenges with confidence, courage, creativity and humour.’
