Elstree School to become fully co-ed

Elstree School, Berkshire, has announced it is to become fully co-ed as of September 2020.

A decision that has taken several years of careful planning and consideration, Elstree’s Headmaster, Sid Inglis, his wife, Olivia and the Elstree Governing Body are delighted by the prospect of educating both boys and girls from the ages of 3-13 in the imminent future.

Sid Inglis announced, ‘I am delighted to be leading one of the most exciting transformations in the history of Elstree.  It has become clear in recent years that both our current and prospective parents are looking for a family focused school: one that offers the same opportunities and ambitions for their daughters, as it does for their sons.’

Elstree currently educates girls from nursery (age three) to the end of year three (age seven). James Sunley, Chairman of Elstree’s Governors, explains the major benefits of continuing to accept girls through to the age of 13 – ‘Apart from it being more convenient for families, Elstree becoming a fully coeducational school enhances social and emotional development, and prepares our pupils for their lives well beyond their time at Elstree.’

This momentous event for Elstree will be put into place gradually, maintaining the family atmosphere and personal teaching that comes with small class sizes and low staff to pupil ratios.
