The Forfar Education group is looking forward to an enduring partnership with the Horris Hill Trust and is honoured to work with a school that has consistently achieved brilliant results for over 130 years.
Horris Hill, Berkshire, offers boarding and day education and has achieved lasting success across a broad range of disciplines, with a history of academic excellence. Over half of the school’s pupils go on to attend Eton, Winchester, Harrow and Radley. With its recently opened Lower School, Horris Hill now educates children from 4 to 13.
Over the next three years, an ambitious refurbishment program is planned for the school and its 65-acre estate. This will start with new STEM and art facilities being built, whilst the sports hall, boarding and staff accommodation will also be extensively refurbished.
An overhaul of the school technology infrastructure will occur this summer and the school’s grounds will be transformed to include a new adventure playground, with a large outdoor forest school, play areas, bike tracks, tree houses, tepees and outdoor classrooms.
Proposals are also being considered to redesign the sports facilities to incorporate an indoor 25m swimming pool complex. This is in addition to the new multimillion-pound David Brownlow Theatre that opened this year. Both the theatre and the sporting facilities will be open to the wider community, as Forfar views being part of the local community integral to the future of all its schools.
There are also plans for a new purpose-built, 50-week nursery to open in 2022. Horris Hill will consider a co-educational offering across the school, starting with the Lower School. In addition, it will focus on enhancing its generous offering for children of serving members of the armed forces as well as those of veterans.
There will be no change in the day-to-day management team for the next academic year. Forfar’s aim is to provide support and investment to Horris Hill working closely with the senior leadership team, the Horris Hill Trust, staff, pupils, parents and alumni.
‘This is a hugely exciting opportunity for Horris Hill, and this investment will enable Horris Hill to remain at the forefront of prep school education and secure a bright future for the school,’ says Marina Lund, Chairman of the Governors. ‘I am delighted that I shall have the opportunity to remain involved with the school, as will many of our existing Governors as we move forward in such a positive direction.’
The day-to-day management of the school will be led by the Headmaster, Dr Steve Bailey, ably assisted by his senior management team. Forfar will support the staff, pupils and parents in continuing to deliver the brilliant education that they do.
‘Forfar looks forward to working with the Horris Hill team and supporting them to take the school to its next exciting stage of development. It is and will remain one of the great preparatory schools, that will continue to build children’s confidence and ensure that they are well-positioned to access the right schools for them – be they academic, artistic or athletic.
‘Forfar aims to underpin the legacy of the Founders by continuing to carry out the duty of preserving the school’s character and high educational standards. We are proud to be part of the next chapter of Horris Hill’s long history of excellence,’ said John Forsyth, Founder and CEO of Forfar Education.
Forfar believes in a broad holistic education, one that stretches children to their potential, embeds resilience through team sports, class activities and pastoral care, and provides exposure to the great outdoors and the world at large.
