Fountain of Hygiene

A highly talented pupil from St Peter’s School, York, has been shortlisted for an international design competition, Fountain of Hygiene: Sanitiser Design Competition.

Maggie Hutchings, 14, is in the third-form at St Peter’s, York. She entered her design, Coby the Crocodile, in the competition Fountain of Hygiene, which was launched by Bompas and Parr – globally leading experts in multi-sensory design – and the Design Museum.

Maggie’s Coby the Crocodile is now one of just six entries shortlisted in the ‘Cadet Design’ category for under-18s. ‘I’m really excited that my design has been shortlist,’ she says. ‘It is great to see it on a website among other amazing designs.’

Maggie is not the only one to recognise she has been shortlisted with some other brilliant designs – something that makes her achievement stand out even more – as her Design and Technology teacher, Mr Jon Whitehouse, says: ‘There are some incredible ideas in this shortlist, and Maggie’s design is no exception, taking a very functional product and giving it an aesthetic lift.’

‘Maggie’s creativity and design skills are excellent, and to be one of six finalists internationally at the age of 14 is a great achievement,’ commented Jeremy Walker, Head Master at St Peter’s School. ‘I would encourage everyone to vote for Maggie and look forward to seeing where her abilities may take her in the future.’

The prototypes of the winning designs will be displayed at the London Design Museum when it is reopened to the public.
