For children in South West England who have been denied music lessons due to coronavirus and are worried their musical abilities will slip in this time, fear not! Bristol Plays Music – the city’s award winning music hub and run by Bristol Music Trust – have created a Virtual Academy to provide existing and new music students with individual home music lessons.

Helping music students so they can continue to practice, Bristol Plays Music’s new Virtual Academy teaches children from age 7 to 18 via video call, delivering individual home music lessons online. Bristol Plays Music is able to offer lessons in most musical instruments, from total beginners to seasoned musicians, the Virtual Academy will be able to cater for your musical needs during coronavirus lockdown.

‘We know that music is a vital part of a rounded education and also an important means of self-expression,’ explained Phil Castang, director of creative learning and engagement at Bristol Music Trust. He continues, ‘the Virtual Academy is a place for young people to continue with that experience and learning.’

Bristol Plays Music is also pleased to announce that the children of key workers, or those who have been financially affected by the coronavirus outbreak, will be able to apply for free bursary places, continuing their musical careers with fully funded online tuition.
