Bromsgrove Pre-Preparatory School has recently been visited by GB Olympic Modern Pentathlon athlete and Mintridge Foundation Ambassador Jo Muir OLY.
The children had a fantastic time learning about what goes into being an Olympic athlete, and about her experience at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jo’s visit was perfectly timed ahead of the Pre-Prep Modern Pentathlon week.
Jo spent the day teaching the children about her sport, in particular, fencing. The children were overjoyed to try out some fencing techniques, learning about the poise and positioning of the complex sport. The main takeaway message from the GB athlete, was to always try your best at every sport, because you never know what you may be good at until you try. Jo also mentioned the importance of being resilient in both sport and in life.
Jo noted that it was important for young children to be patient with their sports, as everything takes practice. The athlete herself remembers not being very good at some sports when she was younger, particularly running. However, she is now one of the very best at it within the Pentathlon because of her hard work and practice.
The children were very interactive throughout the day, asking interesting and mature questions. As well as learning some techniques of fencing, they also got to try on some of Jo’s sporting kit for the Pentathlon, as well as seeing her medals. The children learnt a lot from Jo’s exciting visit and were very grateful for her presentation and time.
