GDST alumna, Konnie Huq, returned to Notting Hill & Ealing High School for an explosive book launch
Konnie Huq has returned to her old school, Notting Hill & Ealing High School, GDST, for an explosive book launch. The former Blue Peter presenter turned author was welcomed at NHEHS for a science fuelled-workshop ‘Science, Explosions and Scribbling’, to tie in with the launch of her first book Cookie!… and the Most Annoying Boy in the World.
Konnie said: ‘Notting Hill & Ealing High School has a special place in my heart. I remember doing English in Room 24 and I fondly remember the science block – which is still there. My English and science lessons have come full circle now that I’m introducing current students to my new book.’
All girls from NHEHS Junior School in years 3-6, along with children from neighbouring school, Christ the Saviour, C of E Primary School, were treated to a series of science-themed activities which included an imaginative draw-along to create a comic strip story, with input from the 200 children gathered in the school hall. Huq also read from her new book and an experiment with mints and lemonade created an explosive finale.
‘It was wonderful having Konnie with us today.’ Said Silvana Silva, Head of Junior School at Notting Hill & Ealing High School. ‘Her enthusiasm for science is infectious and she manages to bring it alive with her creative energy. Everyone in the hall today was touched by her passion.’
