One intrepid Ludgrovian achieved an impressive feat when he successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro during his recent half term break. Charlie, from the IIs (Year 7), completed the challenging six-day trek and proudly flew the school flag at the peak, at an altitude of 5,895m above sea level – higher than Everest Base Camp. His climb was both a personal accomplishment and a charitable one, raising significant funds for Larchfield Kids, a children’s home in Tanzania.

Charlie explained: ‘In March 2023 my family and I went on holiday to Zanzibar, which was my favourite holiday ever, and we spent a lot of time playing with the children there. What I did not realise at first was that these children were always available to play with me because they were unable to go to school. Whilst the schooling is free there, children cannot go to school without uniform and many cannot afford the uniform, so, sadly, they just don’t go to school.’

His monumental fundraising efforts have been very successful and to date he has raised over £13,000. These funds will contribute to providing a happy, safe, and secure home for the children at Larchfield Kids.
