As the new academic year 2022-2023 starts, The Beacon, Amersham, is delighted to welcome its new Headmaster, Mr Nick Baker.
Formerly Headmaster at Wetherby Prep School since 2008, one of the most sought-after Prep schools in London, Nick Baker has a wealth of educational experience spanning over twenty years in both state and independent schools.
Nick grew up in Amersham and attended schools in the area as a boy. He felt that after 14 fulfilling and enjoyable years in Central London, the draw to come back ‘home’ was too strong. Knowing The Beacon well, he always had an admiration for the school and was thus delighted to be appointed as Headmaster.
As the term starts, Nick has outlined that he has no intention to give the school a big shake-up, the staff and school are already ‘excellent’ as evidenced by the recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in February 2022. However, all schools, even the very best ones like The Beacon, benefit from different eyes on them from time to time and as Nick says the best schools should always be ‘in development’.
Nick prides himself on building excellent relationships, and his natural charm and exceptional management is sure to help The Beacon Community continue to thrive. He aims to build strong relationships with the community, highlighting that he has a ‘my door is always open’ approach to parents, boys and local residents and stakeholders.
In the welcome video below, Nick Baker highlights his excitement to begin his Headship. He says, “Single-sex schools are very special because they highlight what make boys tick. What we do here, is really look after the boys; we have Teachers for boys, not just Teachers of boys.”
