As parents are aware, the current Head, Mrs Hewer, who has led the school since 2016 with great success, announced her intention to step down last summer and leaves in August 2025 with the School’s best wishes. On making the appointment of Miss Fox the Board of Governors are certain she is perfectly placed to take St George’s on the next chapter of the School’s journey and she is very much looking forward to joining and moving on site with her three sons.
She will take up her position in September 2025 and the School firmly believe she will bring inclusive and constructive leadership, a continuing focus on all round educational outcomes, with the aim of positioning St George’s as a school which opens global opportunities for its leavers.
Miss Fox is currently Academic and Universities Director at Harrow School, a position on the Senior Management Team that she has held since 2021. She is one of two directors responsible for the academic life of Harrow. Alongside being a Classics Master and Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, she has been Master-in-charge of Oxbridge and Scholars and involved in sport and boarding. Before joining Harrow in 2018 she was a lecturer at the University of Oxford and has had teaching roles at several highly regarded schools including, St Edward’s Oxford, Headington, The School of St Helen and St Katharine Abingdon, and Winchester College. Rowing was a significant part of her life whilst studying at Oxford, something she continued to be involved in as a coach earlier in her career.
Commenting on her appointment, Miss Fox said:
“From my very first visit to St George’s, I was captivated by the strong sense of energy and purpose within the whole community. What an honour, then, it is to be joining the School in September as Head. I look forward to meeting and working with the dedicated staff, parents, alumnae, and at the heart of St George’s, the girls. I am committed to building upon the excellent work of Liz Hewer and ensuring the School’s holistic education nurtures strong, capable young women who are ready to make a positive impact on our ever-changing world.”
