New Loughborough Grammar Sixth Form Centre Stuns

The incredible new Sixth Form Centre for Loughborough Grammar School looks like something out of a science-fiction movie - but did you know that it was funded by a legacy gift?
Loughborough Grammar School is delighted to announce the official opening of its newly refurbished Tower and Sixth Form Centre, all thanks to the generosity of alumnus Arthur Shepherd (LGS 1914) whose legacy gift has made a significant contribution to the extensive works.
Following a huge facelift over the last few months, the Loughborough Grammar Sixth Form Centre now boasts university-style surroundings to promote collaborative working, with modern meeting spaces as well as individual workstations. A new staircase and the installation of a feature ceiling has added light and space to the area, which will also house a new café and provide a vibrant environment for students to study as well as socialise.
The opening ceremony, which took place earlier this month, was a proud moment for the Shepherd family whose connection to the Loughborough Schools Foundation spans four generations, with 21 members of the family having attended one of the Foundation’s Schools.
Arthur Shepherd’s legacy continues to benefit Loughborough Grammar School decades after his passing in 1984 with his generous gift supporting a range of areas. These include scholarships and bursaries, providing educational opportunities for many pupils, and capital developments across the School, including redeveloping essential facilities to ensure that they meet the needs of a growing and diverse student community.
Helen Foster, Head of Loughborough Grammar School, shared her enthusiasm for the project: ‘We are thrilled to unveil the newly refurbished Tower and Sixth Form Centre, a space that embodies our rich heritage and forward-looking approach to education. This transformation will provide our students with the resources and environment they need to thrive academically and personally, thanks to the incredible generosity of Arthur Shepherd.’
The Loughborough Schools Foundation is a foundation of four schools comprising: Fairfield Prep School (boys and girls 3–11), Loughborough Amherst School (boys and girls 4–18), Loughborough Grammar School (boys 10–18), and Loughborough High School (girls 11–18). The schools operate under one governing body and are situated on two neighbouring campuses in the town. The Foundation also includes The Loughborough Nursery for children from 6 weeks to 4 years.
