During the week pupils from Danes Hill School, a Prep School in Oxshott, Surrey participated in a range of activities promoting kindness and mental health. They had the opportunity to complete a wellbeing scavenger hunt, put worries in a stress bucket, write calming butterflies, and enjoy a mindful colouring competition. The week ended with pupils and teachers joining thousands of other people across the UK in raiding their wardrobes to find an item of yellow clothing, in support of Young Minds Hello Yellow. There were certainly some very imaginative ideas, one being a Hufflepuff jumper from the world of Harry Potter and a giant yellow dinosaur was seen roaming the school corridors! The staff and pupils all enjoyed wearing yellow to brighten up the day.

The Youngs Minds UK charity are a mental health charity for children, young people and their parents, the charity works to ensure all young people can get the mental health support they need. The charity wants to see a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health and believes if young people can get the mental health support they need, when they need it, we can stop an emerging mental health need becoming a crisis. Through three bold, new strategic programmes, Young Minds UK are focusing their work to have as great an impact as possible, they have called their strategy ‘You Matter’. They need young people to know that whatever they are going through, they matter, and they deserve help.

Maxine Shaw, Head said: ‘It was utterly wonderful to see the school community wholeheartedly embrace Hello Yellow Day. As a school community we understand the importance of supporting young people with their mental health, pastoral care at Danes Hill is a central tenet of school life, promoting kindness and wellbeing to our pupils, parents, staff, and the wider community.’
