To commemorate Remembrance Day, Year 4 girls at Heatherton School collaborated with Year 4 Beacon boys on a project to craft their own poppies for public display in Amersham.

Miss Michelle Jackson, Head of Art at The Beacon, initiated the Remembrance Day Poppy Art Project after taking inspiration from the beautiful London Bridge poppy display for Remembrance Day in 2014.

The team of pupils got together in both Art Studios to carefully mould their poppies out of clay. Once perfected and set in the kiln, they enthusiastically hand-painting the poppies red and worked with Mr Ivan Van Roohen, Head of DT at The Beacon, to affix the poppies to stems in preparation for the grass display.

Over 80 poppies are now proudly positioned on a grass area on the corner of Copperkins Lane, Amersham, which is located in between the two schools. The magnificent display can be enjoyed by the locals of Amersham and passersby.

Miss Jackson says: ‘I am so proud of how well the girls and boys worked together, bringing so much care and attention to detail to each poppy. They all look fantastic!’

Mr Nick Baker, Headmaster at The Beacon, says: ‘A huge well done to the Year 4 boys and girls from both schools for their hard work and superb creative flair. Thank you also to the Teachers for bringing such a lovely project to life for public display as a mark of respect for Remembrance Day.’
