The Beacon School boys are thrilled to be attending Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year, to perform the outstanding Guys and Dolls JR production.
The show will run daily from 7-12 August 2022 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, St Augustine’s located at 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL.
“We are excited to showcase Guys and Dolls JR involving our Upper School boys, as well as their younger and older siblings (former Beacon boys). Our 2018 production of Bugsy Malone sold out at The Edinburgh Fringe and reviewed five-stars. We hope to achieve the same with this production. Our boys and Performing Arts team have been working tirelessly, they truly deserve it,” says Zenelle, Head of Drama at The Beacon.
Tickets cost £10 adults / £7.50 children and may be purchased at www.edfringe.com.
Edinburgh will see how a “bushel and a peck” of boys from The Beacon School “can do” when the boys present their production of Guys and Dolls JR. the week beginning 7 August 2022, it was announced by Drew Cohen, President of Music Theatre International (MTI). Guys and Dolls JR. features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, and is based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon.
Guys and Dolls JR is an adaptation of the show considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy! Its namesake ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950 and won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Frank Loesser’s brassy, immortal score and witty book makes Guys and Dolls JR. a perennial crowd pleaser.
About The Musical
Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls JR. follows Salvation Army crusaders and high rollers from the streets of Times Square to Havana and back again. Nathan Detroit, who is permanently engaged to psychosomatic showgirl Miss Adelaide, may be forced to fold Detroit’s Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game unless he wins a bet from slick high roller Sky Masterson. When Sky gambles that he can woo any “doll” Nathan counters that Sky will not be able to convince an upright (but uptight) missionary named Sarah to go to Havana with him. At first, Sarah easily resists the rakish Sky, but eventually both Sky and Sarah teach each other a lesson on winning.
“From Sky Masterson, Miss Adelaide and Sarah, to their fellow gamblers, performers and crusaders, Guys and Dolls JR. is filled with so many well-loved characters. We applaud these boys for their hard work in creating the world of this musical and the characters that populate it. We think they deserve a standing ovation from the community for all of their work,” says Cohen.
