The winner will get an educational tour of the ship.

The original ship was known for its historic circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580. The replica took on its own circumnavigations, travelling in the Atlantic and over 100,000 nautical miles.

The competition asks primary school pupils to design a 50th birthday card for the Golden Hinde. You can access the entry pack for primary schools here.

Secondary school pupils have been asked to write poems around the theme of sailing or the sea. You can see this entry pack here.

Some submissions will be showcased on board the ship for visitors to see.

The judges are former crewmate and resident artist, Zillah Richards, and ship navigator, Jilly Francis.

Entries need to be submitted by 22nd May 2023.

To find out more information about the competition, please see the official website.

Another 50th anniversary event is the ‘Circumnavigation challenge’ which asks for schools and families to go on their own challenge in their town, local park or schools to raise funds to enable the ship to remain open in the future. You can find out more about this event here.
