Tockington Manor School is celebrating after its pupils participated in a successful Guinness World Record Attempt. Six pupils joined a group of 1,327 people in a coordinated effort to tidy up the River Taff in Wales. The Taff Tidy smashed the record for the most people participating in a river cleanup. These young eco warriors were stationed in Cardiff Bay and helped collect a huge amount of man-made litter from the banks of the river.
‘It’s important to look after the environment,’ says Year 6 pupil Theodore. ‘We want to set an example to the rest of the school of small ways they can make a difference. Litter picking is such an easy contribution to make.’
Tockington’s Eco Schools Programme aims to foster environmental responsibility. The pupils’ efforts extend beyond the record-breaking river tidy, with plans for a local village clean-up and ongoing projects like a wildflower meadow and reducing school waste.
Taff Tidy organisers are using the record to launch further initiatives, including a documentary and educational workshops, to encourage lasting behavioural change. Tockington Manor School’s Headmaster praised the pupils’ achievement and commitment to creating a greener environment.
