The Curriculum
A broad and engaging curriculum with the results to prove it as KES is consistently among the top five independent schools in the South West (based on A-level results), according to The Sunday Times Parent Power Survey.
Games & The Arts
The school’s eclectic and wide ranging co-curricular provision is ‘outstanding’ notes the ISI, and reflects the School’s stated aim to encourage pupils to acquire a lifelong passion for knowledge, discovery and adventure. From Lego robotics to esports and yoga to Model United Nations, there is something for everyone here at KES.
Pastoral Care
King Edward’s is a happy school, where the social and emotional well-being of our pupils is central to all that we do. We get to know our pupils well and build open and trusting relationships so that children can flourish, succeed and develop into spirited, thoughtful and confident young adults. We value tolerance and kindness, and work hard to develop resilience and independence. In our last ISI review pastoral care was noted as ‘a particular strength of the school’.
University Places
This year 90% of pupils secured places at their first choice Higher Education institution. Over 50% of students are taking up places at the UK’s top 20 universities with 70% heading to Russell Group universities. Six individuals secured their places at Oxford and Cambridge, and two students will be attending Brown and Tufts Universities in the US. Significantly, 15 former pupils are set to study Medicine after all KES applicants were successful in gaining places on these highly sought-after courses.
This year also sees the widest range of different institutions accepting KES pupils. Among the most popular university destinations are Exeter, Manchester, Leeds, UCL, Bristol, Edinburgh and King’s College London. Other notable university destinations include Imperial College London, St Andrews, LSE, Durham, Southampton, Warwick, Birmingham, York and Wiltshire College (for those taking up Art Foundation places).
Matching the broad range of destinations are the aspirations of our former students, who are set to study a diverse range of subjects including: Engineering, Film Studies, History, French, Computer Science, Geography, Art & Design, Environmental Sciences, Criminology, Physics & Astrophysics, English, Music, Esports, Natural Sciences and Economics.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
The ethos of the school is one that encourages all pupils to play as hard as they work and to make the most of all the wonderful opportunities here, both in and out of the classroom, that enable them to grow and thrive within a supportive and caring framework. We set the bar high, but we also give our pupils all the tools that they need to reach those ambitious standards. We aim to foster talent in all its forms and to open doors to enquiry and discovery. Independent-mindedness and creative spirit are strong suits, but so too is the sense of community that seeks to respect and value all its members.
