Entrance Procedure: St George’s is a non-selective school. Pupils can join St George’s at any age, subject to places being available. The main entry points are Kindergarten at age 3, Reception class at age 4 and Year 5 at age 9. Entry at Year 7 gives pupils the opportunity to experience boarding before senior school. Between Year 1 and Year 4 the school arranges taster days for prospective pupils and entry is based on observing them in the school environment and in informal play. Entry into the Upper School is similarly non-selective, but the process is designed to identify pupils who are able to benefit from the balanced and well-rounded curriculum and who will make a positive contribution to the life of the school. From Year 5, a taster day includes an assessment in Maths and English.

The Curriculum
The curriculum at St George’s is exciting, stimulating and challenging. Dedicated form teachers and subject specialists provide pupils with a well-rounded, comprehensive education, designed to prepare them for the next stage in their academic journey. We work with parents to identify the best environment in which their children will flourish.
Games & The Arts
All children benefit from the indoor swimming pool and extensive playing fields. From Year 3 there are over four hours of timetabled sport each week and weekly fixtures of football, rugby, cricket, netball, hockey or rounders. There are over 40 sporting co-curricular activities and every child in the school is involved in drama productions and visiting workshops throughout the year.
Pastoral Care
St George’s School is a joyful, caring, lively community. Wherever you go, you will see smiling faces of children who are positive and secure.
Caring and committed staff, supported by a dedicated safeguarding team, gently guide the children in forming relationships with one another and the traditional values of kindness, courtesy and good manners sit high on the school’s agenda.
A culture of praise runs through the heart of the school, and through encouragement, confidence and self-esteem come naturally.
This nurturing, family-focused environment supports and builds each pupil’s understanding of how they fit into the school community and wider world.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
The young people educated at St George’s will have the opportunity to be transformational leaders in a challenging world, where they will exercise significant influence on matters that cross geographical, cultural and social borders. It is crucial to create a unique educational experience that fully prepares them for this, whilst remaining true to the school’s traditional values. Above all else, the experience should be one that is fun, happy and full of wonder.
