While it’s always sad to wave goodbye to summer, the autumn/winter season brings plenty of its own delights. Sunny pub gardens and BBQs make way for pumpkin spice lattes, cosy nights in, fireworks, and the build up to Christmas. It’s a time for big scarves, chunky sweaters – and of course, lots of cashmere.
Enter the new AW 19/20 collection from Johnstons of Elgin, a revamp of timeless cashmere classics focused around the stylish traveller. It’s inspired by the 1920s and 30s, a time of transformation in the travel world, with new post-war technologies making global adventures an exciting new prospect. ‘The Stylish Traveller’ reflects this with a selection of unique, lightweight pieces perfectly suited to the modern traveller.
The new collection is all about comfort and warmth, with a range of coats and separates made with specially developed fabrics including double-face matte cashmere, merino lightweights and cashmere velour. Knitwear includes their signature cashmere and new superfine merino, alongside both cashmere stretch and 10-ply chunky statement sweaters. Colours are opulent and set against deep hues, with patterns influenced by cubism and art deco structures. Shapes, meanwhile, are elegant, evoking the classic silhouettes of French fashion designers Poiret, Patou and Vionnet.
Established in 1797, Johnstons of Elgin have over two centuries of experience in creating the highest-quality cashmere and merino fibres. They have two mills across Scotland, one in Elgin and another in Hawick, Elgin being the only vertical mill left in Scotland – meaning they dye, spin, weave and finish everything on site. Delicate care and soft Scottish water is combined with innovative technology, timeless design and unrivalled craftsmanship to create products which are not only stylish, they last. Longevity is a big part of the brand and attention to detail is paramount, meaning items can be passed on through generations.
